X-Fi vs. headphones impedance

Hello

At the moment I'm using quite old heapdhones that served me well for many years - AKG K200 Mk II. I'm planning to replace them with something more current (doesn't have to be AKG), and reading reviews/opinions in different places.

Currently though there's one point - headphones will be almost exclusively used with PC, x-fi xtreme gamer to be precise. So there's a question of what this card can actually drive ? To be honest, I'm not even sure if my current AKGs should be used with that "equipment", or what impedance they had (can't find any specs of them these days). Something tells me though it wasn't too small...

Anyway, putting aside brand and other features, what type of impedance is acceptable for my x-fi ?

if you're not going to use an amp, use an IEM, an efficient one such as Shure. But keep in mind that the digital volume control degrades sound.

I agree. The opamps used on the X-fi only deliver 300mW max. You should either use an amp, or a headphone that sounds good within that limit.
