2 Sound devices & ASIO question

cross posting this from my other thread so the right people might notice it,

I installed ASIO4ALL last night to use with foobar and my new Central Station, but I noticed that when playing through foobar I still get sound through multiple applications at once (I thought ASIO only supported one stream) and also Kmixer volume control is still active.. How can this be the case if ASIO is supposed to bypass Kmixer? Do I need to uninstall the Creative drivers?

also dealing with my original question, if I were to add the AV710 as a second card dedicated to SPDIF (keeping the Audigy to decode DTS and DD5.1 into my speakers) will foobar playback through kmixer along with the AV710? if that makes sense to anyone.. more like can I have standard windows sounds and game sounds independent on the A2ZS and kmixer while listening to music from foobar and the AV710 while using ASIO?

what a headache

Im guessing I would have the Audigy set to the primary under windows device settings, then have the AV710 ASIO selected under foobar.. Its just the kmixer volume being active while using ASIO that scares me....

Check your foobar ASIO mappings. Your left/right channels must be mapped to more than one device.

Sorry, I should have clarified my current setup in the first post.

I'm just trying to get an understanding of how it will work with the setup I have planned.

Currently I only have the Audigy 2 ZS and am planning to add the chaintech av710 to use its superior digital out with a custom firmware. I want to retain the Audigy 2 ZS which is running my analog 5.1 system, for windows sounds, gaming and DTS / DD5.1 decoding and have its output(input) isolated from the chaintech which would ideally only stream from foobar ASIO plugin.

Is this a reasonable expectation?

Im not having any trouble with ASIO at the moment except that kmixer volume control seems to affect it's output. Leaving me to wonder if it is truly bypassing kmixer.. which if this is true it leads me to expect the AV710 would suffer from full kmixer output instead of only ASIO.

any external usb DAC would work the same (as a second sound device) so any experience anyone has with these would be beneficial as well. (does it output full windows sound or only your ASIO foobar stream?)

edit:
or is it just a feature of ASIO4ALL to synchronize with kmixer's volume control?

Just to make sure, by Kmixer VC you mean the wave out or the master volume? AFAIK the wave out becomes useless when using ASIO4all but the master volume is still functional (maxed for bit-perfect if I remember correctly).

You initial method of separating system and other sounds from music is correct so that shouldnt be a problem.

awesome, thank you very much!

and you were correct, I was referring to the windows volume control mixer settings.. which I assumed were tied directly to windows sound processing. Master volume works but wave does not attenuate the signal, like you pointed out.
