Well these are the issues with the k701s , i.e. power hungry and bass response most folks recognise as being problematic, and which is why the HEED is such a wonderful synergistic match. I find the Heeds seemingly infiniate power and slightly biased bass response a most perfect fit together and that I prefer the analougue biased sound camp is another plus here...
(EDIT Here: The Mapletree with a GE 5751 in V1 further extends the 701s bass response deeper, with yet greater texture and further promenance; As well as extention at the top end with greater airyness ....Both amps replacing my HeadFive for these very reasons although at greater cost, of course)
Again, "at its price point' it is a very nice package which has been able to take full advantage of my recent DAC upgrade.
Let me tell you there IS no lack of textured and articulated lower frequencys in the Heed/k701 match, its very tight and focused, this is the presentation I'm experiencing. That is the potential lurking beneath the surface with this combo. as always dependent upon our sources feeding them, IME...
