Thread Starter
im new here, but i gotta say, everytime i read a post that says this like its some sort of whitty remark, i think, you people are the lamest most unoriginal people ever

and then u know the 3 poster after the first guy only clicked on that thread to say the same thing.

lol just a though, i do like all the people here, just wondering if anyone else think its overplayed

Well, it was a joke when whoever came up with it did, that was ages ago, same kind of thing with RBISHE YO!

if it was a joke, it would be played out by now, i agree.

but it's not a joke. it's a warning.

one that no one heeds.

beware.

Yup; it's gone beyond being a joke and become more of the traditional greeting around here!

Just another way of saying "Hi"!!

....but with a darker meaning.

Are you speaking from experience?
I agree the statement is a bit over played but it is not lame because it is very very real here. Did you read the post about the teenager who got into a fight with his parents because he spent a few hundred dollars just to get his iPod moddified along with a cable? It was an ugly family situation for him.

Also, in the world of serious rising debt for Americans, Head-Fi isn't exactly a helpful financial saver. So it's not really a joke exactly. It's a light hearted statement but with some serious undertones.

I don't think people are trying to be witty. It's just our way of welcoming new members because we know how true it is.

I know that when someone said that to me last year, I was like "what's that supposed to mean?". Now I know exactly what it means.

i never got around to apologizing for your situation, jahn. i'm sorry about your bank account.

We should change the slogan because it's a little out dated. Perhaps, "Sorry about your enormous debt"

Good idea . how about .

"welcome to head-fi , sorry about the fact that your gonna be eating Kraft Macaroni & Cheese for all meals from now on to fund your desire for audio nirvana"

Make your mind up. But yeah, sensible(ish) responses to your query above mine have covered it very adequately....

You've obviously not gone through the journey. If you had, you would understand that for some, saying, "sorry about your wallet" is more a sympathetic statement of a cursed camaraderie than anything meant to be whitty. It's a sharing of bemused misery and a somewhat smug recognition of yet another person about to be suckered into a path you yourself were suckered onto not too long ago. The fact that it "unoriginal" is precisely because the feeling is shared, and is to some degree, a root experience of members of this community.

Best regards,

-Jason

Thanks, I totally need that! Not many times you read something that actually makes you laught out loud at work.

You can probably shorten it to "Welcome to head-fi, say goodbuy to money and welcome to Kraft Macaroni & Cheese dinners"
