Which EMM Labs DAC? The DAC6e? Yeah, those EMM Labs pieces look like beasts.

So the Triple Fi pro actually sounds pretty good? Hmmm.

I ordered the PK2's on Tuesday and they came in today. That's pretty fast service. Thanks Fang.

They come in a nice wooden box with the PK2's, three pairs of foam cushions, a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter, and some literature in Chinese. One pair of the foamies has the "Kramer Mod" and the other two do not. Oh yeah, the PK2's come in a round plastic container with a friction fit top. This container goes inside the wooden box with everything else.

I just started listening to them so these are initial impressions only and to be taken with a grain of salt (like all my impressions ). The highs are nice. They have a little trouble when the music gets loud, but don't do anything too bad. Female vocals sound natural. There is a decent sound stage. It's not too wide but it's coherent. Mids are nice too. Bass is surprisingly deep and tight. It suffers a little only on the lowest organ notes in my listening. Crossfeed was turned on in most of my listening. Soundstage is similar with it off. It's still very coherent.

I bought these to be my earphones when working out. They will be plugged directly into an iPOD Nano for that use. I'll have to try that setup soon but the Nano is at home and I'm not. For my intended use, I prefer the 1.5 meter cable length to the much longer PK1 cable. They stick in my ears when I shake my head. Overall, I expect these to work wonderfully well as workout earphones.

Episiarch, thanks for the recommendation even if it was for the PK1's. It led me to these!

Soon after the meet I got an email from acoustic sounds announcing preorders for the vinyl that Steve Hoffman discussed in his talk. I promptly ordered my favorite titles. When I got home last night Joni Mitchell's Blue was waiting for me.

That Apache looks very nice! I am especially interested in the preamp function as well!

: Purchased UE-10's immediately after not being announced as a winner Had my ear molds made and now waiting for the call to pick them up ( I live close). Pre-ordered all the Hoffman/Gray Warner Bros. remastered LP's.

I'm broke until next year.

I gotta say that of all the things I heard, those UE-10's are still on my "gee, those were great" list. But I'm also talking with Reference Audio Labs about getting a modified Oppo player. whatdotowhatdodo. The UE-10 Pros were sweet, punchy, and had nice bass to boot. I keep thinking about them...

Have you read Stereophile reveiw of the Oppo? They think an unmodded unit with a good DAC is world class. So if ya got a DAC why mod?

it's true, the oppo's redbook as transport out to an external DAC is just dandy, no need to mod. but the stock analog outs from the oppo for hi-res could use some warming up - and no option to have a digital out for that signal unless you have an HDMI dac receiver thing waiting on the other end, which i don't.

Ah, I've just read that, very very interesting read.

It was Oppo/Transporter against the Ayre C5xe if I'm not mistaken.

Now that Headfest is over and all you head-fi hooligans are gone, my biggest item on the shopping list is a $3 million renovation of the Radisson.

Dude, your place is gorgeous. I couldn't imagine what you may possibly have to "renovate" in there.

One of the strangest things with me is that as time progresses my "shopping list" and what I think I heard has changed a bit.

1. The Qualia is back at the top of my list for things to buy. (but I'm not holding my breath for such a thing ever appearing again)
2. The triple-fi pro is out because I remember I don't like feeling "isolated" and my ipod broke.
3. A source upgrade would be nice, but I'm realizing I'm many years away from such a thing.
4. the GS-X is back in; while i wasn't particularly captivated with it at the national meet, hearing it out of Humanflyz system has made me a believer.
5. 14 days with Asr's silver power cords has left my mouth hungry for that "silver PC" taste in my system... but should I indulge?

Exactly what I have done here with my Oppo --> Lavry DA10 ---> AT-HA5000 into either the W5000 or UE9s. I think I have a nice setup.

Iron_Dreamer is going to love the UE9s with their fantastic texture in it's bass.

I have not heard the Grado PS-1s but on a Japaneses web site the UE9s are compared very favorably. That is with the UE9s having at least a couple of hundred hours on them, better yet 300 hours. They also said that they were like two totally different headphones before and after burn-in, enough so to call one the e9-1 and the other the e9-2. www.h-kingdom.org

Yup, pulled the trigger on the Woo6, even though I thought the Woo3 was more than adequate.
