To date, I've not heard any headphone, other than those two, which could provide a very powerful bass without sounding overly bloated, flabby, sloppy, slow, etc. The Qualia in the right system has the best bass quality of any headphone I've heard, but simply due to frequency balance, it just doesn't quite reach the punch level of the aforementioned pair.

So I'm looking at the Ed9 to provide the "sick bass" as an alternative to the more open, airy W5000. I bought the W11 thinking they might have had a chance to do it, but I the Ed9 will give me a higher degree of contrast.
Did you listen to the Denon5000? They had decent bass but it could have been a little tighter IMO.

Yep, that was my take. The low bass was quite strong, but the mid-upper bass lacked a bit of punch; in this regard the bass was "rounder" as some like to say, and more towards the Sennheiser side of things. I think it's definitely a headphone worth what it costs, but the bass is looser than I would strive for.

It is only the starter list! In Japan having fun now but will be in San Diego soon enough. BTW, you need to update your signature line, only one set of Qualia listed! I'll be excited to see how high the count goes!

That was my impression as well. I got to hear agile_ones out of the Yammi. The bass wasn't as controlled as I would have liked. I got some of the same from the Edition 9's. I had a couple of days between listening to the two cans and didn't listen long enough to compare the two.

Aaron, it was great meeting you. I wish you could have hung out with us a bit more. We managed to drag poor Dan with us. He didn't seem to suffer any ill effects.

I would try the Denon with another amp, the Edition 9s were they through the Rudi at his table or the other pair I saw at the high end room? I only say that as the yammy works great with AT cans and Audio Techs but did not control the bass of the PS1 I auditioned. I switched to solid state Rudi and it was all better. It may be an impedance thing?

Yeah, I'd like to have taken those Denon's over to the Apache or Raptor or something from Singlepower to see how they change. I think they have a lot of potential with the propper synergy.
