Wiatrob checked out the amp and found it was a bad PSU. He sold me a used Sigma 22 in February at a very good price (below cost), but as he was casing it up he shorted something and blew a transformer which he replaced. But then it kept blowing mosfets on the negative rail before he could ship it to me.
Eventually he got it working and shipped it to me, where upon it worked for a good month, before it started blowing mosfets again after a brief period of extremely high volumes levels (20 minutes) with a pair of HE-5. Bill has been unable to get the S22 working properly again now, and he ran out of time due to increased demands at work. He's got new mosfets in it, but the problem is somewhere else that is causing them to blow. With the S22 the amp sounded better than ever, so I would be happy to pay someone to trouble shoot the S22. I just don't know where to start. Bill told me he opened up the amp and everything looked decent except for some cooked flux left on the PCB and some discoloration in some transistors, which hasn't affected the sound.
That is correct, it only used the +/- 12v, and not the 5v. Thanks for the link to the PSU, I will certainly check it out. I'd love to get the S22 up and running, but this would be my fall back since it doesn't look like it will fit in my current Hammond case for the S22. It would be dangerous to ask me to DIY something like this.
