I've always heard it the other way:

Beer is the usual drink for me when I'm at the bar. My days of tanking mixed drinks and shots are pretty much over unless someone is ordering or serving up to me. Capt Morgan or Barcardi and coke is one of the standard mixed drinks I would order if I'm not drinking beer. Haven't had much Irish Car Bombs, on occassion it would be a Jäger Bomb or more often than not a Vodka Bomb served with Grey Goose, Chopin, or Belvedere. As Gloomfire has stated:

Liquor before beer, never fear
Beer before liquor, never sicker

Practice makes perfect buddy, try it a few times.

Any time I go out and we pre-drink 40%, if I drink beer at the club, I'm getting messed up. If I stick to Whiskey/Cola, I'm all good.

Oh yah, it's also a good idea to steer clear of anything with sugar, like Coke (even those I love Whiskey/Cola, not too many).

My first drinking experience was at a bachelor party (wait, wasn't it? ). Anyway, there were 18 holes of "golf," actually 18 stations in someone's home where various shots were set up. The idea was to make your way through the different stations, becoming, well, drunker as you went. When I got to the dirty girl scout station I was finished--not because I was too drunk, but because they were so good! I had about 7 dirty girl scouts before moving on, and then I probably went back for more. It's a good shot for a beginner.

SHOT:

1/4 vodka
1/4 Baileys
1/4 Kahlua
1/4 crème de menthe

Oh, don't order this in a bar. That would be really lame.

Cuba Libre.

Basically just a rum and coke... but it has a splash of lime juice and you run a lime around the glass edge and then use it as a garnish.

Mojitos are great now that the warm weather is coming: rum, club soda, mint leaves, sugar, lime. Very refreshing.

avoid sugar -- mixing sugar and alcohol is what gives the hang-over. that means stay away from daiquiris, long island ice teas, margaritas, mojitos, etc.

i agree with the earlier poster -- call brands are often worth it, particularly with scotch.

scotch on the rocks is awesome -- acquired taste, but awesome. never a hangover with scotch -- maybe a little dehydrated, but not the killer headaches.

HAHAH just turned 21.. I love canada... 19 is the age of majority.

oh and drinks... yeah pre drink, bars are a rip off, like 5 bucks a beer when u can get em for a buck a beer.

secondly, my favourite drinks are white russians, glass of scotch, or coke + rum. oh and if you have ever heard of an orgasm, they are good, a shot involving vodka, kahlua and bailey's

neither of these x before y rules are grounded in any truth

drink enough and dehydrate yourself enough youll feel bad in the morning regardless of means

for the op, buy a bunch of bottles and experiment for yourself. webtender.com is a TERRIFIC resource

(my personal preferences are for classic gin-based ****tails: tom collins, gibson, gin&tonic, etc etc)

Grey Goose on the rocks with a twist or a lime. Add a side of ice water to keep from gulping the vodka and to keep hydrated and all is good!

jack and coke on the rocks FTW!

Man, jager bombs are awfully fun, and they allow you to stay out late. They don't taste so bad, either. Make sure you drop the whole glass in, though -- it's no fun if you're not drinking out of two cups.
