Headroom new Ultra Micro DAC - Page 6

Still very curious to know whether the amp and DAC sections in the new rechargeable Micro Amp will be the same or better than the existing Microstack The excellent answer in relation to the AC powered units did not address this. Even if the same, the form factor and charging would make this very attractive but several of us would nonetheless love to know. Thanks in advance!

question about new Micro DAC

I bought a Headroom Micro amp last fall; is there any reason not to pair the new Micro DAC with it when it becomes available (I don't care about using battery power).

No reason that I can see. If you're not going portable, then it's well worth the wait for the new version.

Jamey, would you please explain the differences? Specially on what would be the differences when listening to the two amps side by side. Thanks.

I/O as in input/output. RCA outputs, full sized coaxial and toslink inputs, etc...
Hey cool, that's my signature on the table!

The Ultra Micro looks awesome, too. More improvements? Yes, please!

Thanks, jamey, for answering all the questions!

Except for the questions that he repeatedly refuses to answer or even acknolwedge! Such as - I and other have asked this several times - where does the amp and DAC sections of the new rechargeable Micro Portable fit into the Micro Amp and Micro DAC line?

At the risk of comparing apples to oranges, the Micro Portable is roughly on par with the Desktop module. The other new Micros are pretty much exactly Home and Max electronics, so they pretty easily best the Micro Portable.

I think that Tyll at least starts to address this question in the Micro thread in the Headroom Forum, have a look.

Thanks Tyll. That's great news. I was getting frustrated at the silence and indeed the level of the amp component is higher than I had expected. Worth talking about! I remain a huge fan of my original Micro DAC.

Nate, thanks for the link.

Are there any improvements in USB/SPDIF conversion?

I've got the Headroom Millet Hybrid. It's a great amp, but I couldn't add a DAC. Since both a PCDP or my Squeezebox would use a DAC, I'd love one that would fit neatly in the stack.

Do these stack with the desktop components (particularly with the tubes on the Millet using up the top)? If the Ultra Micro DAC will stack properly, under the Millet, I'm going to be an extremely happy camper.

Can these use the Desktop power supply, or do they have to use their own? My desktop power supply has a lot of open ports.

I thought that was answered already. Anyway, my intial questions were answered before I got to the end of the thread.

I'm looking forward to having a listen.
