While I know this is somewhat dissapointing but we got off to a late start after significant music server issue and did not do detailed cable tail comparisons. The folks at slim devices, Morsel and Episiarch, worked their tails off to try and revive th server. We wound up using Tyrion's laptop with the F1 being fed by the transporter and the Dassun intergrated fed by the squeezebox/headroom microdac, the Moth was originally fed by the squeezebox/microdac but after the Zanden/audioaero entered the rrom we wnted to face them off.
All the tails were a step up from the akg cable. I did not do a detailed comparison but I would have to tip it to the SAA Equinox. The Moon cables were great and the PURE silver spades were beautifull. IMHO you could not go wrong with either cable.
The suprise performer at the k1000 room was the intergrated amp brought by Ping from AAA Audio. This amp sounded great with the k1000 and at $1300 for a serious speaker intergated amp that also kicks butt with the k1000s it a no brainer to put it on your list of amps to consider. Ping is one of the good guys and spent a considerable amount of time in the k1000 room it is clear he is an enthusiast as well as a great vendor.
What can I say about SAA and Moon, huge thanks to both vendors for amking this happen and trusting us with bags and bags of cables. It really comes down to preferance the black and silver dragons were cables I would look hard at but there is something about the SAA cable that I like.
Slim devices gave us incredible support for the room and not only did they hook us up with the transporter (this is a serious piece of gear!!!!) and the squeexeboxes they also assisted both days with the room. They clearly kove what they do and were a HUGE help with the room, I can not thank them enough.
Tyl provided dacs for us and all the cables to get them rockin, the micro dacs sounded killer with the squeezebox and may soon be part of my desktop.
Some impressions were
Zanden--- This amp was king of the hill, it has crazy detail I hear sound in Miles Davis Kind of blue that I had not heard before. THe danger with an amp that is hyper detailed is they can also be fatiguing. This amp was also soooooooo smooth. If you can find one on the used market and have the cash jump all over it. FooMe had just received the amp the day prior and did us a solid by bringing this beauty to the meet. If you ever sell this amp please put on your list of people to contat prior to posting it.
Moth 300B--- great amp and was tied for top honors with the F1 until the arrival of the Zanden. The F1 and Moth were very different beasts. The Moth had that great 300b sound with nice detail. It is a classic and with the Western Electric 300b tubes was a great amp for the k1000 and is a real looker.
First Watt F1--- (big thanks to Humanflyz for the loaner) I have one of these and I love the huge fast sound. Some that heard it found it just on the brittle side but I heard gobs of detailed fast sounds with great extension on both ends. While it does benefit from a tube pre amp I found its sound straight from the transporter to be a winner.
More to come later I am on 3 hours of sleep after a tough red flight back to Ft Lauderdale. sorry if I babbled
Also thanks to Tyrion for working the room with me
