I'm going to disagree that a home amp in this price range will be better than a good portable. I had a Hornet & while I had it I compared to several home amps in the same or a little higher price range. I found the Hornet to hold its own to them all. It wasn't until I moved to the Single Power that I truly saw a big improvement. I can't speak for other portables, but the Hornet definitely holds its own in this price range.

If you aren't going to post a constructive post then don't post at all. I have already searched the forums.

Use the advanced search button and search by username. MisterX doesnt make the Alien DAC anymore. You need to find it somewhere else. and heres a thread about the XP amp that I personally started.

I dont know why you couldnt have found it. It was pretty easy to find for me at least.

and really man, I know you're young but have patience and stop being so aggressive to the other members! Theyre all trying to help you and youre being very trite with them and making them not want to help you

btw, IMO i think you should put off getting an amp and get better headphones instead. Amps dont do as much as you probably think right now.

what about the portables that run off ac power? does the ac power make a difference?

this is something that is quite off-topic. but i realized that most home amps are tube, dont see too many ss. is that generally the case?

oh whoops I must have missed that. The 225s are great, but the improvement with an amp wont be mind blowing as you might think.

and as I always say in these threads, try out the 225s first before getting an amp! You might enjoy the unamped sound enough to not buy an amp! I stayed with an unamped 225 until I heard the PS-1 and the HP-1000, and I got an amp to try to imitate the bass extension of those phones, but if I didnt hear those phones and if I didnt have a hd580, I might not have gotten an amp at all!
