Ipod 5th Gen problems!!

Okay, So about 2 years ago now; I purchased a video ipod. I was cool. One year and 4 days later (4 days after the warranty expires) my headphone jack goes out. So im like 'crap' I'll just buy a Zen and use this ipod as a portable hard drive(this was before I knew about the lineout and such). Then 2 weeks later the hard drive goes out!?!

So my question is: Without having to go to ("ipodmods.com") <-- expensive, who or where can I get a headphone jack and a 60GB hard drive from?

It may be easier to just buy another one(which I won't), but if someone has one for parts I may be interested.

The hard drive is the most expensive part in an iPod. You're not going to find a cheap fix. It's unusual that yours broke so early. I have a three year old iPod that still works fine, and all it's ever needed is a battery replacement.

From hearing peoples' experience with iPods of all generations, it really is a hit and miss thing. I had one friend who had a 3rd generation 20gb for about three years, the battery being the only thing that was showing it's age. Another girl just had plain bad luck, she had a 40gb iPod which got replaced or fixed about four times.

If it's getting replaced, it can't be a lemon. That sounds like someone who treats their iPod rough. You can't drop one on a hard surface and expect the hard drive to survive it.

I have a 1st gen Ipod that is still going strong,and just recenlty had its battery replaced.A 3rd gen 40gb that I replced the batery on as it had been re charged about 2000 times,(I kid you not) My new 5.5g 80Gb is tough as nails,its been through the washing machine once,and came out fine ! Post and add,or hope someone here knows of a place that can repair it cheap.Locally here in Ottawa,there are a few places that do Ipod repair for cheap/replace batteries.Do you not have an electronic store that can
do repairs locally ? Or do you live in a small town.

Heck,just this week a student at my Uni started offering same day 'Ipod Repair Services' on the cheap.

Well....if you have the money, there is a company selling a 100gb hard drive AND they sell a headphone outs.

The hard drive is 299 for the 100gb and 200 for a replacement 60gb (you mail your ipod in and they install it for you).

The audio jack is 55 dollars.

i had a 4g 20gb for i think 3 years? i got it when it first came out, oh so long ago... then i sold it to my mom, and now i think that the hard drive is going...

I feel like some people just ignore me.

Try the business card mod to your iPod that I linked earlier. A good number of people have reported success with what appeared to be failing hard drives.

i wanst contradicting you or anything, i just wanted to say that my ipod has lasted over 3 years on stock parts. i might do that buisness card mod on it

My ipod was in MINT condition...never dropped. It was just a lemon. BTW, I had tried all of those tricks and none of them worked! So I trashed the HDD. I think for the price of a new HDD, I might as well buy a new one (which I won't do)!

Sorry you did that! If you still have it I will take it away from your hands. Heck maybe next Saturday we can get together with Voltron1 and have a mini-meet in Miami.
