600 Ohm vs. 250 Ohm vs. 120 Ohm etc, how to select?

Some headphones are offered with different impedance, like Beyers 770/880 have both 250 and 600 ohm models, making it kind of confusing....

Is there any guidelines on impedances selection? provided an amp of some kind will be used.

Thanks

naturally, transformerless tube amps require high impedance cans, while with other amps, you can get more output using lower impedance cans. but it goes beyond what amp you will be using. the impedance of the can impacts the very design of the drivers themselves, and they may sound different.
