I only use my HP-2's at home. I have the UE-10's for portable use.

Generally these are meant for home use in a stationary position.

Well this is a very good question. As the phrase goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Here’s a web link to some images made on a visit with Joseph Grado at his home earlier this spring:

You’ll notice the master enjoys listening to Grado HP-1000's with both iPods as well as, "portable Swiss made audio playback systems".

In, “Image 6”, notice as well the condition of his HP-1. I recently attended a funeral mass during which communion was offered to the congregation. In watching the priest handle the chalice during the ceremony, it reminded me of how Joseph cares for his personal headphones after using them. I do the same; by reverently handling them when using them and then returning them to proper storage when our listening sessions have concluded.

Awesome pics! Thanks!

Most quality headphone come with 1/4" plugs, because that is what most quality systems require. It is mostly consumer gear of various qualities that make use of the 1/8" plugs. This was especially true when the HP-1000's were made, but still largely true today.

i notice that you are new, hopefully you aren't thinking about bidding on the hp-1000s on ebay, i think those were sent in for repair and have RS-1 drivers

many people on head-fi have gotten tricked into buying them

I use my HP2 only at home. They are a bit heavy and cumbersome to be used on the go, and given that they are open cans, they are not all that suitable for outside use.

However, my favorite amp to use for them in my system is actually the Larocco PRII, which is in fact a portable amp...but then it has a 1/4" jack and is substantial and refined enough for home use.

It's not the same pair, nor seller. These are legit, but appear to be in rough shape.

If they are legit but only in rough shape; then perhaps they DO need a good home. After all; there were only just so many produced.

But yup; awesome pics of Joe and his phones at that!
