ATHANC7 review. - Page 7

First let me introduce myself. I've perused this forum before, but didn't really start reading much here until after I bought my ANC7's this week and fell in love with them. The music supply store I bought them at didn't have a huge selection, but from what they had I liked these the best. I'd never really spent much on headphones before so these were to be my first foray into some slightly higher end headphones. I got them home and hooked them up to my tascam US-428 which provides much better sound output than the stock sound card in my computer. I listened to all sorts of music for several hours and was just blown away by the sound. I was hearing things I had never heard before. I really love these headphones! I was pleasantly surprised to read here and elsewhere that they were so well received and that I got them for a steal. $106 tax included!

Welcome to the club and I am sorry about your wallet...

Thanks! I'm sure this place will impact my wallet. Fortunately, I'm pretty good at not playing with toys that are too far beyond my financial means. However, I won't deny that reading here has certainly made me very curious to find what I'm missing.

A little bump

I have a question for the owners of this set. I have read some reviews at amazon mentioning these headphones have a lot of sound leakage, meaning, people sitting next to you can hear very well what you are listening to. Have you noticed this? Have you had people complain because it was disturbing to them?
Thanks.

That's not the case. You would have to be BLASTING these for someone next to you to hear them. They have decent isolation even without the noise canceling circuit active.

I continue to really enjoy mine - finally a NC headphone I can love!

Okay, great. I just ordered my pair today. I will get to try them out sunday when I fly 10 hours from Europe to the Caribean

I don't understand why people's opinion can be so different on that sound leakage...maybe some test it in a relatively quiet environment and others on a plane where people surrounding them have to deal with engine noise and yours will be masked by that more. (although on an airplane, they're also sitting pretty close next to you) Anyway, I'll see... I won't be blasting them so I assume it won't be a problem like you said.

I also fly regularly (once a week), usually to Europe and Israel from south Florida. Purchased the ANC7s as a result of reviews here and it's made each trip a lot easier to take.

For really enjoying my ipod, there's nothing like my SE530s, but when it's time to sit back and (try) to get some sleep and noise-canceling, the ANC7s come out.

I often get upgraded to business class, but no matter where I sit, I always see others take out their Bose, it seems to be more a status symbol than a good sounding noise-canceling headphone. People have even seen me with the ANC7s on and proclaim that look at them, they have the Bose, the best in the market. I laugh and once tried to explain that while Bose has great marketing, their headphones leave a lot to be desired in sound reproduction.

But, thankfully the people here have set me on the right course, and I just sit back enjoy the flight and smile that I only spent $125 on mine while they spent upwards of $300 plus. I guess when you spend that kind of money even though you can get superior headphones for a lot less, you tend to convince yourself that you own "the best".

Hello,

I'm new on Head-Fi and really find the information/reviews/insights on the forums very helpful. This is a great site.

I recently purchased a pair of the ANC7 and have been using it for 4 days. Just yesterday I noticed a sound from the headset and I'm not sure if this is a defect with mine (and I'm just unlucky) or if this is normal.

Has anyone heard a "hissing" or "hollow tunnel air sound" coming from the headset when the noise cancelling function is turned on and no music is being played? I hear the sound even when my headset cord is attached or deteached.

I'm just wondering if I should be sending it back for warranty/refund. Or if anyone has any suggestions to get it fixed.

Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

The high pitched hissing squeal you are experiencing and the sound that reminds me of an air conditioner is an after-effect of the noise cancelling circuitry being switched on. This is why it occurs even with the headphone cord detached.

In my case, the noises are quite quiet, and are not noticeable when music is playing.

I personally would not bother sending them back for a replacement unless you believe the noises to be overly loud and they interfere with your enjoyment of the music.

I also recommend that you try to avoid using them with the noise cancelling turned off, as it makes them sound a lot like their Bose competitors - that is muffled and farty.

If this is your first foray into the weird and wonderful world of high end headphones, I recommend you purchase a pair of non noise cancelling headphones later on down the track for home use. As they offer higher quality sound at the same price point.

Happy listening!

Evey once in a great while my ANC7s seem to have some noise. I turn them off and back on and/or unplugged them and this seems to kill it. Maybe it static cling from something that is doing it, I don't know.

10 days late but...

Could it be possible that there's actually electron build up in the cans? Any possible way to earth them?
Or could it be caused by low battery issues?

That said though, the ANC7 is probably the best active noise cancelling phone out there IMO.
Nearly dead silent in ANC mode, and sounds well balanced with a bit of low end rolloff (nothing a portable amp + Bass Boost of a bit of EQing can't fix).

Really loved them on the short 20 minutes I tested them out. I definitely see these cans in my list in the future =)
