From the pictures, it kinda looked like a mahogany, and Denon's website says that it is infact Mahogany.
Interesting to note how red they were able to make it while maintaining some of the grain.

Skylab, which closed headphone do you think has the best sound isolation, ie. does not let outside sound in.

I believe in another DA5000 thread Skylab mentioned Darths being the most isolating.

Two more quick questions:

1. I believe it has good synergy with the MG Head OTL MkIII. Does it do better in OTL mode or in transformer mode?
2. how is its vocal performance? In particular, its musicality (as opposed to accuracy)?

Good review Skylab, I think a lot of us were wondering about those phones. I think for those that are considering these vs W5000s and are interested in bass but not paying the JVC's prices or willing to wait for Darth Beyers to become available... this sounds the way to go if you are in the woodie market. The isolating/sealing question is definitely key here for me Sounds like it works out though!

Thanks and nice review! Your comments about the slight nasal coloration of the JVCs midrange is spot-on. If the Denon can have that quality of sound but without the midrange coloration, I may have found my favorite closed can.
