Well, the newer versions started manufacturing in summer of '06. Add in a few months to get rid of the older version bulk.

I was just not a fan of the older version, the bass was boomy and the high frequencies were fake-sounding. I returned them.

I've heard that the Philips SHS391 has severe issues with comfort, putting an inordinate pressure in front of one's ears.

have the same drivers and everything, then I must say, I don't like them at all. Is this what KSC75's are like? Because I think I'm annoyed by the mids/highs a little, and I'm not hearing much detail, as compared with my K81s and even my marshmallows

I doubt it. Just because they look alike and they're from the same company doesn't mean they have the same drivers.. the KSC-75 (60-ohm) and KSC-7 (32-ohm) look similar but one is good and the other sucks.

you've made me really curious! i like my ksc75 but their butt ugliness has prevented me from wearing them in public. the 391 may fit the bill. i'll pick up a pair next time i find myself in a best buy

The SH391 is only $4.99 Cad in factorydirect.ca and if you live in Toronto , you can just get it at their retail stores.

Just got myself a brand new pair of SH391 today.

Just to add on, I also saw some pairs at Target for like $8.

The aren't as good as the KSC75, quite nasaly in the mids, but otherwise a solid performer for $12 list. I have yet to hear a better cheap street-style headphone at least.
