Inexpensive Quality Subwoofers - Page 2

Max F: Very interesting links, but also very complicated. I have been setting my sub levels by ear - I don't even have a meter. I don't know if my old brain is up to figuring all of that new equipment out. Very interesting, though. One other problem - the volume knob on my parts express sub doesn't seem to work. The crossover knob does work (although I don't know how accurate it is). I'm setting the volume with my receiver, and have the cross over all-the-way up since the receiver is doing the crossover.

You may find when you get a new sub that it too will sound boomy as hell due to your room. Really focus on the placement first and if you still can't get it to work seriously look into using an EQ like the BFD.

The cheapskate in me says head over to diyaudio.com and see if you can get some help modding your current setup.

The part of me that loves to spend other peoples money is chanting SVS.

I used to own a Pinnacle Baby Boomer that has 2 8" subs in a 10" square box. This little sucker is much more musical than the Sunfire True series, yet can handle the home theater boom well for its size. I see them used in the $300-400 range all the time.
