where is the boom coming from?

hi guys,

my bedroom system is a complete bastardisation of high end equipment. nonetheless i do not understand something. some cd's present with secondary reflections(boomy) but most do not. all i have for comparisen is my two reference systems where only recordings that are the absolute worst sound so. so i don't really know how to tell if the reflections are coming from certain cd's or if it is the placement of my loudspeakers and/or sub.

i also occasionally get high frequency reflections in this system(tweeter breakup, sizzle). would it hurt to put some of gc's $30 foam directly behind each speaker? they are four inches from the wall not ported no toe in. sub is in a corner on 5/8" marble slab.

any ideas to improve the sonics(if it is not just the cd's) are appreciated .

thanks,

nevermind. the answer became obvious to me right after i posted this.

the speakers needed to be decoupled from the giant dresser they sit on. $2 worth of cork sheet under each speaker and it is great. i did say this setup is less than ideal

In my set cork sounds kind of dry; I'm getting very good results vibrapods under my speakers.

the cork does sound kind of dry. i could try vibrapods or some other isolators. thanks for the idea.
this was the problem though. the dresser was just to much of a hard surface for them to be on.
