Pulled Trigger on HD650

The mindf**k is finally over. I've decided on the 650's. Thanks for any and all input from various folks over the course of the past several weeks.

I basically decided on the 650's so that I wouldn't want to upgrade in, like, two months, as another poster indicated they did. Ordered it from Headroom. Actually spoke with Tyll for a few minutes. Seems like a really nice guy. Never realized his company has been around for nearly 15 years. Wow!

Anxious to hear the Sennheiser sound. It's kind of weird that Sennheiser has been around forever and I've yet to listen to one. I actually put one on my head when I was in Germany, but the headphone rack it was hooked up to was broken and no music came out.

Hopefully, I'll be another satisfied HD650 owner and not one who can't get past the "veil."

make sure you "burn" for a couple of hundred hours for maturation. made a big difference in mine.

How low did Tyll go with them? Also, you should get an amp asap, the micro will do well.

Your arsenal of headphones seem to be likely candidates for hearing a lot of veil (Beyers and Grados), but your amp may bring out a lot of good things in the 650s. When I upscaled my amps, the 650s sounded considerably better than they did on portable amps. I have not heard your MPX3 either, but I assume it is at least in the class of my HR-2 and GS-1. 650s sound great with lots of music, but really shine with classical.

I just added a RAL cable, and while my audiophile lingo is limited, I can say WOW! with the best of them . Probably the best dynamic I have heard (outside of guitar based alt music).

Great choice. I hope you enjoy them, I love the 650 and its veil

You have a nice collection...looks like you don't need any more...so what's next?

I am a big fan of getting what you want and enjoying it instead of constantly worrying about upgrading. I'm sure you'll enjoy the HD650s.

x2. World class sound without a doubt. With the correct amp, I've heard them trounce $10 000 speaker systems.

There is vei.... (I'm not allowed to say the V word), but that can be enjoyable in its own way.
Kind of like printing your pin sharp photo on matte paper instead of gloss.

From what i know, 580 still not 600's sound even with grilles, cables, etc.

$349.00 plus S/H. It was a few more dollars than the bottom-line prices on the net, but I figure I've purchased from them previously and I do call them occasionally to ask questions (more earlier on in this hobby), so I was willing to pay for their services and went with them. Seemed the right thing to do.

The poster I was referring to was FallenAngel; however, had I read about your two weeks versus the two months, that more than likely would have had the same effect.

Really, though, other than the uber-expensive cans, which I'll probably never get into (praying again) I think I've pretty much got it covered. Having said that, I am still curious about the DT880's and would like to get into the AT AD2000's or the W5000's but they are a bit on the pricey end of things. Besides, I'm not that sure that I would prefer the AD2000's over my SA5000's. I have no idea about the W5000's, though.

I'm really curious about some of the higher-end (but not too high) solid state amps. I'd like to eventually check out the dual mono Rudistor or the new Meier Opera. That's probably going to be way down the line. (Another prayer.)
