Speakers for my computer, <$150. Recommendations?

First of all, are any of the 2.1 setups on newegg.com and such any good?

Some I've been looking at:
Klipsch 2.1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836119101

Cambridge Soundworks 2.1
http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/s...&item=c1swzzzz

I don't know anything about bookshelf speakers but they seem to be getting a lot of love here so if those are better, what are some good cheap ones? All the ones I've come across have been like $200+. Also, would I need an amp for them?

As for my source, I'm using a Chaintech AV-710.

Odd, can't find the thread. How much are the edifiers? And are the two speakers I listed any good?

Not familiar with cambridge (weren't they bought by creative? Anything branded "cambridge" is probably obsolete by now), but klipsch 2.1 is probably the best "plastic" multimedia speaker out there. Obviously higher-end stuff like swans m200 is better.

How do monitors sound? Do they pack a punch at all? I feel odd paying almost 200 dollars for a pair of speakers that don't even come with a woofer.

I think you'll be surprised at how good monitors can sound. All the good monitors I've heard all have had excellent bass. Very clean and articulated and deep. If you want something muddy and bloated, you can get one of the cheap 2.1 systems. I haven't seen any 2.1 set ups in that range that sound great. Since you use MS-1's it seems as if monitors will have plenty of bass for you.

I bought my Edifier S2.1D direct from Edifier's webpage. They are in Canada. They sound way better than my Monsoon mm-700, my mm-1000 or my PM-14 (all planar speaker systems with subs/amps) I think I paid $151.20 which included shipping from canada post($31) Very worth it, these are great for listening to music/watching dvds.

My question is, will I feel this bass in my stomach? Cause that's what I'm looking for. MS-1's are great for rock and all, but I'm of the opinion that you can't truly rock without a gut-punching woofer.

I like the Klipsch 2.0 ProMedia Ultra. They really have good sound where it counts. The best desktop speakers I've owned. The sub bass isn't quite where you might like it but it would be easy to add on a nice sub on your budget.

Forget monitors and PC speakers, just get some real speakers and a stereo amp:

With active monitors such as the ones on the m-audio DX4s, what would happen if you ran a line through something like a emu0404? Would you muddle the sound due to the extra amplification?

Sorry if that's a beginner's question...

I am running Event Electronics ALP5 active monitors balanced from an E-MU 0404/USB.The sound is clean and tight.A string bass sounds like a string bass but you will not get that WOMP effect like standing next to a person beating on a bass drum.

I vote for Klipsch ProMedia 2.1! Very Satisfied with it for the past 3-4yrs, till recently spoilt. But will get it fixed soon!! Very fun sounding set, Hmph on demand. but get muddy and excessive if U over do it.

Will be my day time choice, and my MS2i for my night.

There are some good value in shielded used HT speakers like the ones from Eosone RSS series (can be had for less than $100/pair if you look for them). An amp is required but that's feature, isn't it?
