Is it possible to get a strait line out of my macbook?

tosslink to 3.5 mm or something???

so that the audio isn't effected by the 3 freaking volume controls...

Just wondering... Thanks All!

The MacBook have an optical digital audio output.
You just need a miniplug to TOSLINK cable to connect it to your DAC.

Example the cable in this set: AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit with Monster Cables

If you're implying that the digital volume controls (and there are only two: the application and system volume) somehow degrade the sound, that's not true. If you set both the application and system volume to maximum, Macbooks are bit-perfect. That's been verified multiple times. There is no benefit to what you propose from a sound quality point of view. The DAC inside the Macbook is actually quite good; I'd wait until you could afford a Lavry DA10 before investing in an external DAC, if sound quality is what you're after. A lot of the cheaper external DACs will just be sideways moves in sound, not upgrades.

I am certain there are nothing like that out there. It would have to be a DAC, connected to your MacBook through a Toslink cable, and to the mains.

Do you think a Total Bithead as far as DAC is concerned would be a sideways move as well? Nonregarding the fact that it also has an amp inside.
