i have been listening to it for about 6 hours now and i can lay my hand on it no problem. it is warm, but definitely not hot. now, i would not dare stick my finger in the little holes and touch the tubes. i have a feeling that would be a big mistake

i remember being blown away too with my first amp. my brother got me into this hobby when he first showed me his first pocket amp. i laughed at the thought of a headphone amp but i have him to thank for getting me into this hobby. i never thought music could sound this good at such an affordable price (though i am not suggesting this a cheap hobby, mind you). anyways congrats on your new amp! you just reminded me of how i felt when i first got into this.

There's an ongoing debate in numerous Head-Fi forums re these two. I have both, and they're both keepers as far as I'm concerned. However, I'm gradually leaning toward the 701. With its airy soundstage and clarity throughout the spectrum, I find I can listen for hours with no fatigue. But there are still times when I turn to the 650 -- and that's usually for rock, especially hard rock. You may end up getting both, for different reasons.

thanks for the info. i was planning on trying the akg 701's first since they are cheaper and so many people rave about them, but i am now leaning toward trying the 650's. of course i may lean the other way come tomorrow!
