Help me make sense of discontinued Grado models

I would be forever grateful if someone could list the discontinued Grado models and how they stack up to each other and to the current models.

The old Joe Grado line is known to be much more neutral and natural sounding.

Here's a few interesting links :

Thank you. How does the HF-1 fit in here?

I would say between the SR-225 and RS-1.

Correct me if I'm wrong...IIRC:

Signature series are more for recording studios...HP-1 has the phase switch, HP-2 does not and the drivers that didn't match together as well were labeled as HP-3.

HF-1 was made available exclusively to Head-Fi members, the outside looks almost identical to the 225, except for the wooden button, but on the inside, the driver housing is made of mahogany...Great deal for $200, but nowadays you'd be lucky to find one around $325...

PS-1 was made for a german dealer...and was only available in N. America through TTVJ...VERY good + VERY rare = VERY pricy!!!

SR-40...now...that's a very peculiar one...it was Grado's first attempt for a new style (Think of it as a predecessor of iGrado, if you will)...but apparently it was not received well...

SR-100, 200, 300 were discontinued and seem to be pretty much the equivalent to the 125, 225 and 325...

SR-325...discontinued after the 325i got released...it has an aluminum housing...it's silver coloured whereas the 325i is golden... 325i's housing also seem to resemble the mushroom style on the RS1s and features a new housing...

NOW...seeing as how I'm a very new member here...I expect I probably made a mistake in some of my info...but they should be correct for the most part...please don't judge too harshly...

Frankly, most would probably agree that nothing currently made by Grado is as well-built or sweet-sounding as the HP-1000s and the PS-1s. The GS-1000s seem to be okay but ultimately disappointing compared to what they could have been.

There's a listing of past/current/limited edition models at their wiki page

I think even before that, they came in a black plastic housing.

yup, the hp-1000 drivers are so much better compared to the RS-1/GS-1000s. This is all IMO of course!

As Zanth mentioned before, the HP series and the rest of the Grado lines are designed with different purposes in mind. HPs are meant to be more neutral and suitable for monitoring, while the other main Grado products are designed to appeal of non-professional users, so they are not as neutral but more "fun". So IMO, each is good in doing what they're designed to do and are VERY enjoyable.

Disagree with you there. The RS-2 and HF-1 sound fairly close, with the RS-2 sounding more refined and the bass not as bloated. I'd say it sounds between the 225 and RS-2.
