Good Spanish Guitar Albums?

Hey Head-fi(er's),

I'm looking in getting some Spanish Guitar "genre" albums, which ones would you recommend?

I want some thats well produced, and holds alot of great music.

I don't want an album that just holds great Spanish Guitar, I want one that exhibits great musical skills from other musicians as well (ex. Drums, Percussion, etc.)

Anything with a nice groovy jive to it, and catchy will do.

Cheers!

Entre Dos Aguas - Paco de Lucia
Just listen to the title track and you'll be hooked.

Isn't that from a Cafe del Mar, rlanger?

In general, Paco de Lucia is the man when it comes to what you're looking for. I'd also recommend a name that many de Lucia fans will recognise - Al di Meola.

Go to iTunes and check out the albums "Spain" and "Spain Again" by Michel Camilo and Tomatito (the former is a jazz pianist, the latter a Spanish guitartist). While it doesn't meet your criterion of having a rhythm section, it nevertheless presents a wonderfully evocative presentation from two very strong musicians.

I'll add Rodrigo y Gabriela to the list.

Both of those albums are killer!

It's a set of compilation albums of ambient and chill music. The idea is to simulate the music and the feel of the Cafe del Mar beach in Ibiza. They've been going on for 25 years or so and are moderately well known. I'd definitely recommend the first seven or so, some very good music on there. That Paco de Lucia track was, if memory serves, the first track on the 'Best of..' compilation.

Hmm, sounds like they're worth checking out.

I learned of Paco 20 years ago when I was traveling through Spain and heard Entre Dos Aguas in a small bar in Torremolinos. Absolutely fell in love with it.

The myspace doesn't seem to be working, I keep getting an error page. Is this happening to anyone else?

Al Di Meola, John Mclaughlin, Paco de Lucia in these two CDs:

Friday Night in San Francisico
and
The Guitar Trio

not exactly "spainish" but they are remarkable musicians!

x2. They're not really Spanish. They're Mexican ex-heavy metal by way of Dublin. Truly unbelievable. They're CD costs the same as others but includes a DVD with 3 music videos, a video of they're story, and a tutorial video.

I am also looking for this type of music. I love the Desperado movie title track. One album I have with great spanish guitar is Accident of Birth (it is heavy metal though but awesome production and mastering). I would love more chill spanish guitar albums.

x2. That is a very good CD. Mediterranean Sundance Live is just amazing.

John Williams (not the composer) is another amazing guitarist.
