Most of us knew what you really meant...but in order to be cool, we had to keep it unspoken.
i am not sure what to say here, but... that would be well night damn-cool, uber-kool any bloody mean to say the least... count me in!

Asr had it right — the creepy factor is getting absolutely volcanic. Everyone's trying so hard to be cool, it's become a meltdown.

I'd hate to see the creep-factor graph on this one.

(Yeah, Ren & Stimpy are cool, but that's beside the point.)

That'd be cool.
if he reaches that #? the better question is when will he reach that #.

OMG! This whole thread has devolved into a planned Jahn-Wedgie!

Quoth Thelonious Monk:

Quote:
type like a real man. no capital letters at the beginning of sentences. only the truly cool, aloof, and laid-back users type like us.
Editor friends and I usually groan when we receive a story without caps, just as we do when we're handed submissions littered with ampersands or multiple commas instead of periods. The usual mistake: confusing affectation for attitude.

E. e. cummings and the beats perfected those typographical strategies decades ago, which means such strategies seem time-stamped to anyone with a sense of lit. history. A lot of informal diarists use the mannerisms of immediacy to conjure a sense of emotional urgency in themselves. If that works for you while writing, sobeit. Only, you might have to remove such mannerisms (i) if you come up with something you're proud of and want to publish it in certain venues, and/or (ii) after your revisions reach a certain level of craft.

The gist: Wanting to be perceived as if you don't care proves you do. Confusing formatting for attitude is the perennial disease of the would-be literary hipster.

Deep knowledge of the history of arcane art and culture is the last refuge of the so-called cutting edge. The Street has been gutted of meaning and is now the source of Pepsi Cola ad copy and designer label imagery mined by William Morris scouts. That's why I tend not to pepper my dithyrambs with hip-hop jargon, skaterspeak or user parlance: I myself am not really a rapper, skater or addict. If you are, and speak the language innately, then get your argot on, bring it and props to your stylin' literary self.

==================

Weigh the bye: So far as I know, "particularly cool Head-fiers" is the nomenclature of one SACDLover and not a common Head-fi term. I don't know what one has to do to curry favor with SACDLover, but I'd be more concerned about avoiding his (and everyone else's) particularly uncool list: best not to be unfriendly, slanderous or acrimonious, h-m-m-m-m-m?

three un-capped letters only: w-o-w. and i am by no means a skater, hip hopster or anything of the sort. very nice refresh here though scrypt; i shall sit up a little straighter now

Actually, Wmcmanus did ban Jahn at 9,999 posts as a goof, so it's not an original idea, but an idea that would create thought every year or so since that seems to be the pace that Jahn created.
Had his work not stopped him from going on Head-Fi during the day, his count would be exponentially bigger!
It all started with a vanilla ice cream analogy.

Actually, I'm not the one who told people how to stoop, Shig. That honor goes to a previous poster (who wasn't serious).

Slouch any way you like, Shigzeo:-- This is an ultra-tolerant message board consisting of relative friends. Head-fi is like a posh desk chair; it is tailored to fit just so. No one need tell anyone else how to write, punctuate or capitalize, and it is adolescent to flame other members over spelling or style.

The trick is not to confuse formatting/stylistic preferences for authenticity. In his most misunderstood quote ever, Kerouac decreed, "first thought, best thought." However, few of our minor experiments are first thoughts or even tenth thoughts in the post-pomo posting world, especially when they derive from the beats. People who wear their clothes and hair with a purposeful flourish might achieve writer's club cred for a minute, but said cred dissipates as soon as wannaflows blurt red herrings.

Die, Kerouac, die. Best not to care about neologisms or pseudo-flow-jisms in their various nefarious forms. In the first place, nothing has a shorter shelf-life than media-ready slang. In the second, to paraphrase Robert Lowell, our best thoughts are second thoughts.

A little re-tribute to Jahn's cool ice cream analogy. Happy Un-Birthday, Jahn:

hmmm, i see your point sure. an aside howerver: i am sitting up now. i stole a highchair from a co-worker instead of the sloucher that i usally bang out on. in any case, i could type away and away just to hear more from you. surely, refreshing does not even begin to describe your style. cheers

I leave the thread and you all talk about Banbo II? Argh!

By the way, the proof we need that typing without capitals offsets Fame and Fortune nicely:

i have received many precious informations from all my precursors to this site and to well, cooldom of all things. to all, thank you. certainly, there is no reason to let this go on as we are only giving channel to Jahn to trouse upon the board with a heavier lesson in post-counts.

finally, one day it is my endeavour not so much to have a nice headphone setup, but to make sacd's list. whether it be by bribery, cajolling or even sucking up, you may see me there -- though it could be a special bit at the bottom reserved for not cool headfiers -- and till that day, i bid you thanks.

finally part 12: just so fitz knows, i shall have the final
