SOLD!

See here for additional details and links regarding these headphones.

These have been treated with extreme care and are in excellent condition. I'm moving away from open headphones for the most part as they just don't suit my mode of living.

I still have the original 1/8" to 1/4" adapter, but lost the box during a recent move. I'm asking €25 plus shipping (€11 within the EU, €15 to the USA). Please PM me if interested.

These are nice-sounding headphones! And that headband you see, that's bonded leather!

What do these sound like? I tried to search for info, but all I found were from the Xtra(bass?) version, which pretty much sucked back then.

I think they have, to large extent, a lot of the AKG house sound. I haven't been able to locate a frequency graph for them, but at the time I bought them, I remember that HeadRoom's write-up was quite positive. Like some other more known AKG models, they have somewhat "lean" bass; not to say it isn't there, but that you really will miss out on what is there if you don't have, say, a rather warm-sounding amp. With my Hornet, the bass really wakes up and is quite punchy, although it differs a lot from what you might hear with a beyer, Sennheiser, etc. in terms of impact. The mids are what I have always liked the most about these, and I think there must be a slight hump in the middle midrange. Soundstage and directional placement of instruments is actually quite impressive, the latter being what I consider to be a real strong point of the K-301. The treble, to me, sounds well extended, but maybe a little bit too much so for my tastes. With a mediocre source, the highs can be slightly grating, but with a good source and the right amp (a Hornet in my case), this seems to be helped to a certain extent. These are 120 Ohm headphones, but I don't really know how they rate in terms of efficiency. What I do know is that they don't sound anywhere near what they're supposed to sound like when plugged directly into a computer, and with my Hornet, they definitely sound best using the Hi gain setting and listening at low-to-moderate volumes.

Hmmm... If you could reserve these for the 5th day of next month, (student support money arrives. Others tend to spend it on booze, I want new headphones! ) I'll buy these then. My old K240S is really starting to bother me...
