Plainsong, reread the post, I'm not saying I was prejudiced against him because he portrayed a drag queen, I'm saying that this particular role stuck in my mind while I was watching LOTR and gave me much hilarity, when it's not actually meant to be funny! Good grief, I'm not prejudiced against gays, I think my humour is just too deadpan. I am NOT slagging off gays/TVs/drag queens/Australians, relax! I can't help remembering an actor's previous comedy roles when he or she is playing a serious part.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior is the pinnacle of the series, I think. Also one of my favourite movies ever.

Some other Aussie movies any film buffs should look into:

Metal Skin
Malcolm
The Sum of Us
The Castle
Two Hands
Chopper

Australia has a far better signal to noise ratio than Hollywood as far as quality film goes, simply because there's less money here to throw at projects, and there's less promise of making money.
i have really enjoyed the films form oz that i have seen, especially the mad max series. kiwi & aussie films have a certain quality to them i like, perhaps it is the home grown feel, or the sense of vast openness, or the uncomplicated characters in them. p.q.o.t.d. had all this, and a good script to boot. i've always wanted to visit down under and check it all out for myself, maybe some day when the world calms down a bit.

plainsong,
just wanted to make sure you understood where i was coming from. glad to see we agree, and keep fighting the good fight!

I'm really sorry. :(

Oh, ok... then I'm really sorry. I guess last night I was in a rather defensive mood. I'm always jumping up and defending people whether they need it or not.

I'm sorry I jumped down your throat. For whatever it's worth, I think Hugo Weaving is a great elf, but at the same time I kept thinking of the Agent Smith lines "one of these rings has a future..." But take nothing away from his performance or the cast in general. The books and movies of LOTR, while different, are still the greatest things in the history of all things. But hey, that's just me.

Sorry I crapped in an otherwise friendly thread.... I sorry.

I'll go slink off now...

It's OK plainsong, no offence taken. I agree that the LOTR books, at least, are some of the greatest things ever written though!
