Well I'll agree that the HD595 is more versatile. I also disagree with those that say it can't scale as well as the HD6x0 series. The HD650 is more picky about source and amp....but IMHO, I think it's worth it to spend the bucks on it. I'm obviously partial towards it, and when not amped well, it can be muddy. I'm finding I'm starting to listen at lower volumes now....but still, the HD650 has as much impact and seems better at percusions then my SR325i and HD595. The HD595 has less bass and is easier to get impact. It does really well with punk. I noticed the HD650 was way better for Massive Attack and Mozart when I first got it though With the source I have now, it's my general headphone and seems to do well with everything except poorly recorded/ mastered songs.

It's not an all-rounder per se, but the ATH-AD2000 is the best headphone up to $500!

IMO, the Ultrasone PROline 2500 is the best all-arounder under $500.

I second on HD650.
There is very little if anything they do wrong. Very distinctive headphones.
