The right earphone has a distinct distortion on certain bass noises. Is this normal, will it go away or should I RMA back to newegg.com?

mine don't have that but try a different sourece most preferably non equalized.

What is your source? Are you raising the bass to excessive levels in your equalizer (I assume)?

I tried it both on my home system (Yamaha HTR-5150) with several CD's and also on my PC (Hercules Game Theater XP - latest drivers) with many different MP3's.

I have the equalizer turned off, it's just straight sound at normal levels, music varied from but it's noticeable with hip-hop music the most.

I believe some people reported something similar to this at a certain point during breakin. It should go away within a few hours. If not you may have a problem.

Then why doesn't the left speaker exhibit the same distortion? The left earphone's bass it tight and controlled, in a word, perfect.

I would let them play over night, and if the problem doesn't go away, then RMA them. The HD280 is strange about break-in; giving them time seems to cure a lot of problems.

Well, too late. I just got done RMA'ing them off.

This sounded almost like a rattle, like something was loose in there... yucky. Other than that, these phones sounded fantastic!

Can't wait to get another pair back.
