ok, so i've modded a few 0404's, but this one i'm having trouble
i've done the following mods
1. bridged the output caps on the bottom of the board (these solder bridges look fine to me)
2. removed the output buffer/opamps (there are two of them), and i've bridged the pads as follows:
I I I I -second, third, fourth pad bridged (right to left)
I I I I -first, second third
I I I I -second, third, fourth
I I I I -first, second third
that's looking at the traces of those buffers with the opamps removed, with the PCI-connector being down, i'm pretty sure i've bridged the correct traces
3. replaced the primary opamp with an ad8066AR. the soldering here looks good and clean
4. i've made a breakout cable. it's db9 connector > silver plated copper teflon wire 22awg i think > basic rca jacks
anyway, when i play music on the card I DO HERE SOUND, but it is very low volume, even when i crank the amp all the way up. i get sound from both channels. there's also a good deal of crackling, popping, static, especially at low levels.
my thoughts are
1. could i have fried the opamp with my soldering? if so would i get sound at all?
2. i've somehow made a mistake in my bridging, bridging wrong traces or some such
3. i ****ed something up on my breakout cable, perhaps wrong wire to wrong connector?
i'm thiking most likely it's a soldering error. in fact i've had a problem like this before on the card, and it got solved with better soldering, so i'll keep working on that first. hopefully that's all it is.
i'm also cleaning the areas i've soldered with a toothbrush and "tape head cleaner" from radioshack; i hope this is ok on PCI cards, it's what i always do to clean my soldering work
anyway, sinc i AM getting sound, i'm hoping this shouldn't be too difficult to diagnose, and help is appreciated.
