W2002 sound, but more comfortable? - Page 2

Duncan, if you're reading this thread, can you measure the 'free space inside the pads? I have a feeling the A900 pad has a bigger earhole than the A1000/W2002.

Matt,

I should've taken the pads off the DT831/Grado SR80 and put them on the W2002. I put the DT831 pads on the AD10 and they fit fine. It took the driver off my cheek, and they did alleviate some of the high end harshness. So they may change the sound of the W2002 somewhat. We'll have to try it at the next meeting, if you're up for it.

re:-1, that's another reason why I wanted Pikawel to attend our meeting - for the A900, A1000 and A9X pads.

maybe we can make a flange to put the K501 pads on the W2002

If the W2002 fits one's head well, as it does in my case, it can be very comfortable. It's feels a bit like a lightweight, custom-fit helmet and can be worn for hours. I believe the CD3K has a slight edge in the comfort department, but both are at or near the top of any headphone heap.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about the CD3K detractors. Many of them have heard only the same, possibly defective set belonging to Headroom. These made the rounds on the WoH Tours and the response to them ran the gamut from "too bright" to "too dark." Some characterized them as "tinny," others simply as "Sony crap." Check this thread to see what I mean:

In my experience, they are excellent 'phones which are easily driven from practically any source. I agree that they aren't worth their $695 list price, but who pays list? AudioCubes sells them for about $390 (?) and they can be found even cheaper. I bought mine new for $334.95 from BuyRiteElectronics. At that price, I feel they are easily the best headphone bargain I've encountered.

You are joking, aren't you?

yes.

Matt is not crazy enough to touch a $750 set of headphones.

This sounds interesting I would definitely want to try this at the next meet.

Spad: Thanks for your comments. Do you think you could comment on the sound of the CD3000 vs. the W2002 mainly in the detail department? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I don't think I am ready to go there just yet.
