I am now completely convinced that tourmaline is actually Mr. Short Term Memory Loss.

At least my memory doesn't tell me that cd, sacd and dvd audio and even high end cables all sound the same.

I don't have the compulsion to correlate my sonic impressions with the technical background.
|
|
That's a good way to never understand *why* something sounds the way it does or how to go about improving it.

Do you have any idea what 22kHz sounds like, even if you can hear it? Do you know what percentage of an octave 22kHz is over 20kHz? Do you know what kind of sounds are up in the 22kHz range in music?
If you did, you'd realize how useless a 2kHz extension is up that high. You're arguing numbers without the slightest idea of what those numbers represent. See ya Steve |

See, the emphasis was on «compulsion», not that I don't care. It doesn't help one bit in the case of cables, though. So to not have the compulsion to correlate sonic impressions with measuring data (or expectations) is actually a good precondition for an open mind.

Useless enough to go to 40khz speakers and headphones for sacd, so clearly not everyone is thinking just like you. Not all think more extension IS useless, maybe your comments are just useless, but i think you don't understand that do you. It's just useless enough to make the sound just that little more pleasant and analog. If everybody would just listen to you, we would never had sacd, record cartridges that go way beyond 22khz(wich roll off much nicer) and better cables, speakers and headphones that go beyond 22khz.
You just asume, just like with high end cables and commend. Useless. You were also quite wrong about dsd and pcm conversion. Just leave it to the real pro's. Thank you. ![]() |

I'm always patient and more than happy to share the things I know with people if they are interested in listening. But I've found that there are certain people on the internet who speak entirely for their own benefit. Usually those people post 50 posts for any other person's one, figuring that their flurry of words will make up for the fact that they don't know what they're talking about. It's a vicious circle, because it's tough to learn anything new when you're all "output" and no "input".
Ignorance is fine. Mark Twain said, "Everyone is ignorant- just on different subjects." Ignorance is curable by being willing to listen and learn. But if you refuse to listen, you are choosing to be willfully ignorant, and that crosses the line into being plain stupid. I don't like to waste my time with people like that. I usually talk over their head to the rest of the people reading the thread. In fact, I'm doing that right now... This is the nicest way that I can express this particular concept. Have a nice day!
