Yuin PK1-PK2 appreciation thread - Page 60

500 hours? wow. Now that is some serious burn in. Guess I'd better get to it. I will be really excited to see how they open up.

Pron2phone - thanks. Guess I will pass on the E5 for now. I was going to hold out and see what the E7 had to offer. But it seems like it would be on par with the T3. Hmm. The search continues.

Started the long process of burning in my PK1's. The recommendation is 500 hours...so if I put them on for 8 hours a day, it'll take about 9 weeks to get there. Looking forward to hearing what the difference is today (about 40 hours) and when they are done.

I have the pk2 and Pk3, I dislike both of them because the similarly priced Sennheiser Rivals mx880 and mx580 are just overall better in every way

im looking to upgrade and find a main set of buds, people claim the pk1 may be better suited for me than the sennheiser Mx980

how is the separation and kick factor in the pk1?

Well, so far I would have to say the the separation in my PK2's is superior to the PK1. It's fairly close. I use my PK2 with no amp, definitely no need for one there, but even when running the PK1 through my only amp, the total bithead, they just aren't quite there yet. Kick factor is really nice considering they are an earbud. Definitely a step up over the PK2. That said, I really like bass...not overwhelming distorting bass, but I like the low end to fill in the gaps with some thump. So as far as that's concerned the PK1 still sounds a little light when you are talking about kick. Again, if the recommendations are correct, I'm about 460 hours from getting them to their potential.

As far as the kick goes also, I can see where the bass would be more than adequate for most. The fact that I like bass on the heavy side makes me view them the way I do.

So far, I can say that the PK1 offers a fuller sound without a bigger or wider soundstage. It's like when you're watching a movie and there is a kid inside his or her room listening to music. The parent comes to knock on the door and you can hear the music...sounds a little light and a little hollow. Then the next scene is the kid inside the room....the music now sounds full bodied.

The difference isn't quite that extreme since I personally think the PK2 is awefully close to the PK1 in terms of overall sound at this point...but that's an initial impression.

Edit: I should have added that the sound from inside the room would be comparable to the PK1 and the sound from outside the room would be the PK2.

i just bought a t3 off the forum last week and my pk1's sound amazing through them. i'm going classic (6.5G)-->LOD-->T3-->pk1. I disagree that the T3 can't power it fully.

That was an issue I have been having. Not sure if the amp I have is really sufficient for the PK1. I have been tempering my expectations due to the lack of burn in hours and due to maybe getting a better suited amp.
