Yes, but that's such a small difference that I don't really consider it enough to be another minor version. The K240 sextet had two different cables used as well. If we counted every time AKG made a part change, there would be dozens of versions of most of their headphones.

Actually, this thread is a pretty good dea. The one problem with their support is that they use cut-and-paste from standard text instead of offering human interaction.

Maybe somebody find this useful(AKG's K 26 P bass tweak):

K340 isn't out of production? What would a K701 with 2 dynamics and 2 electrostat drivers (k340 style) be like??? I would buy one immediately

Okay, I've uncovered even more variations within the AKG K240 sextet. It appears not only are there two different sets of passive radiators, there's also two different drivers used, although they do not appear to have been changed at the same time. The diaphragm and outer shell seems the same on both, but how the back of the driver is vented is different. I had my suspicions when one of the pairs I got sounded noticably different than my existing pair with all the same external features, and now I've confirmed those suspicions. I'll try to take some pictures later, and perhaps start a new thread specifically for documenting the variations on the K240 sextet.

greetings AKG gurus!!

Headphone n00b here...basically im just looking for headphones for pc and ipod use. Ive already treid the Sennheiser (px-200, HD 497) and Grado (SR-60) sound, and now want to head over to AKG territory.

Now i really wanted to try the k81dj, based on glowing reviews and a broad fanbase over here, but i just cant seem to find it here in the Philippines. If i want it bady enough ill probably order over the net.

Most of the local distributors here have AKG, but mostly the low end made in china models (k101, k66, etc.). However, i was able to find a store that carried an AKG k240 studio, and i REALLY liked how it looked. Ive done my research and know it has 55 ohms, and CAN be driven by an ipod (i plan to puchase a govibe v5 soon anyway).Plus its within my price range.

Now i plan to use these mostly for ipod and portable use (the sr-60's are just too open, and my px-200 is frayed beyond recognition). Is it recomemndable? How is the SQ, how is it for ipod use, and how is it over-all? I really want to get the k240 studios, but iwanted more feedback first.

If the recommednations dont come, ill either order overseas for a k81dj, or just probably get an e2c or e3c for outside use. Thanks in advance peeps

The 240's are a bit large for portable use. For that reason alone I'd recommend the K81DJ's. The DJ's have a sound signature that lends itself to most music genres. If you keep your eye out in the FS forums you might find a pair that's been recabled (stock cables are way too long), maybe even with upgraded velour pads for a good price.

It would seem, at least the ones I have, that the K270 Playback and K270 Studio differ more than in appearance and the muting switch. My K270 Playback is an older style than my K270 Studio, so I cannot be sure if these differences are from production changes over the years, or from intentional changes between the models. So far I have identified different drivers, different material used for backwave damping, and a different sized aperture on the so-called "bass resonator" attached to one of the drivers. I'm going to try to get an older K270 Studio to see what parts it's using.

Would be over the moon if someone did a decent review of the K280.

Im aware of the similarities between it and the K270.
But id still love a load more information, Finding it tricky to gather much info
on either the 270/280.

Hmmmm. Sounds like a challenge. I'll start a k280 section.

I have set of K501s and K240S', and find the cord on both of them way too long.
Since the 240S has a quick disconnect, is there anyone out there that sells shorter cords on the order of 2m to replace the 3m cord? I'd like a plug and play solution, so to speak.
Yeah, there are.

You could also get another mini-xlr plug and shorten the cable yourself, or have one of the various head-fi cable guys do it for you.

Well Satin must be wearing a parka today. AKG USA has billed my credit card for $60.00 and change. I can only assume that they've finally decided to grace me with the pad and headband order I placed 6 months ago. No email offering any information or explanation as to the billing, but hey I'll be optomistic this once. Although with ericj's previous problems I don't consider myself out of the woods yet.
