I called the local Guitar Center to ask about UE - they are supposed to sell the customs (or they take the money and UE does the res) - I have $250 in credit there and am looking at UE5c's. Anyhow, the less than helpful dude there said that he was not sure they sold customs any more since UE had been sold. He took my name and is going to call me back.

Any info? Is this guy just a cliche stoner music store tool?

I don't think many people at Guitar Center will know much about something like this...last time I was there the guy forgot to print my receipt, which was required to leave the building. The guy at the door was like, "Was it the dude with the long hair?" "Yeah." "Heh, figures."

I will just have to try and call back and get someone better. Like I said, I have $250 in credit there so it is worth dealing with them.

According to UE's website GC does sell the customs.

I don't have any inside info personally, but I'm not sure how this qualifies as evidence that they haven't been sold?

Companies don't usually shut down operations simply because of a change in ownership.

I could certainly see a situation where UE would sell. Let's say that Shure, for example, wants to get into the custom monitior business. By buying UE, they have just purchased all of the expertise (and clients) they could want. This, instead of trying to do so from scratch.

According to UE themselves-NO they have not been sold. They entered into a marketing agreement with M-Audio to sell the Super Fi line thru the established dealer network. The products are rebranded (had them in my hands at Guitar Center) and sold under UE licensing. UE's website does have a statement about this, btw.

last post hit it - I just found out some similar stuff. I did notice that GC now sells that UE stuff under that other name.

Makes sense. Should not effect my ability to get customs if I want to.
