The AV-710 is better than many onboard audio chipsets and is a very good card for the price. However, it may not be better than other similar standalone sound cards. I'm not sure where the Fortissimo stands because it's not common in my area, but I'd guess that the improvement from switching to the AV-710 would only be slight. Also keep in mind the various driver issues that the AV-710 has.

Yes, but it might be a little buggy switching back and forth. It's definitely possible, though.

Flashing to Prodigy firmware totally disables the analog outputs. It's only useful if you want better drivers for bit-perfect digital output.
As for the 4th question, yes, the front outputs work (why wouldn't they?).
