Set the AV710 to HQ 2ch Mode, connect your cans to the Rear Analog out. See if you still get the ringing.

Also for sh*ts and giggles, move the AV710 to the other PCI slot, and see if you still get the ringing.

everytime I set it to 2CH mode I lose my left channel sound also which one is rear analog out? I've been using Line Out

Well once you set it to HQ 2ch mode, I think only one analog output will work. I think its the Surround Out or Alt Out.

Make sure you're solidly plugged into the black jack labeled Alt. Out. Select the high sample rate mode in the Envy control panel and reboot. If you don't reboot, you might run into some weird phase / channel issues.

After spending a long time with this card, I've found that it's better not to do the whole 96 kHz upsampling thing with Foobar. In my case, the card sounds more neutral and performs better after downgrading from the 5.00b (5.12.xxx) drivers to the 4.73 drivers and using the S/PDIF output "trick" (which I can explain if necessary) to get true 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz output from the Wolfson DAC.

Well, I can't hear the ring anymore is it worth using the HQ 2CH mode?

edit: RANT

Where the **** is my headphone adapter? I mean **** Sennheiser how many days does it take to put a small wire adapter into a box and ship it off? and most likely it's already in the boxes? I paid more for shipping than the actual adapter and I get this ****!

ppl just a doubt,I am trading my fortissimo 3 for an av710 but I just want to know if the av710 have the option to switch between the heaphones and the 5.1 wihout unplugin any cable..even with the latest envy24 drivers...

It doesn't matter whether you plug into the two-channel output or the front output of the 5.1 outputs. Both will give you the front Left/Right channels.

I had some sound problems when I tried to switch between the Wolfson and VIA DACs on-the-fly (without rebooting), so your mileage may vary.

RasmusseN, the point of using the 473b drivers is that you don't want to use the hi-sample rate mode. That mode forces upsampling to 96 kHz or higher, which also means that in order to use ASIO or KS, you'll need to use a software upsampler (which uses a lot of CPU time).

Once you have the 473b drivers installed, set the driver to normal 2 CH operation, go into the digital output section, enable S/PDIF output, click the PCM option (third one down), and click Auto under sample rate.

Now you'll have true 44.1 and 48 kHz output from the Wolfson DAC.

Ppl,sorry to hijack this thread agian..but explain me some doubts..
1st)Is the av-710 (envy24 ht-s) better than my fortissimo 3 (crystal cs4624-cq) right?

2nd)Can I have simultaneous the headphones and and the 5.1 connected to the card and the select from what I want to hear?(like in the fortissimo)

3rd)For Analogue use only is it worth flashing the card with the prodigy 7.1 firmware?is the quality better?are the drivers better?(at least they are prettier :P )

4th) Do the front conections work?That's mainly why I am trading my card..


sorry so many questions..but I see so many posts and I don't understand nothing..if it is a good or bad card..

The AV-710 is better than many onboard audio chipsets and is a very good card for the price. However, it may not be better than other similar standalone sound cards. I'm not sure where the Fortissimo stands because it's not common in my area, but I'd guess that the improvement from switching to the AV-710 would only be slight. Also keep in mind the various driver issues that the AV-710 has.

Flashing to Prodigy firmware totally disables the analog outputs. It's only useful if you want better drivers for bit-perfect digital output.

but I am having another problem with my mic I hooked it up to my onboard before and it seemed to work well but when hooking it up to the sound card I am getting excess noise in the background.

I'd also like help with setting it up in foobar2k. I am currently using Kernal Streaming which seems to be working pretty good but after closing I am getting errors it works but is annoying.

I tried KS and it doesn't play but worked with my onboard

I get these messages when I close too, and I tried reinstalling, and it only occurs when using KS. I just switched from 500b to 473b to see if that would help, but nothing new. Anyone else have this problem?

Flashing to Prodigy firmware totally disables the analog outputs. It's only useful if you want better drivers for bit-perfect digital output.

Well I am not used to driver issues lol,althought fortissimo 3 doesn't have driver updates for more than 4 years they are perfect,not even a single issue...
What kind of issues could I have with the drivers?Asio,I only use in the winamp output and in my fortissimo it works ok...
I think I'll buy it and if it went wrong I'll sell it lol...but I only listen to music in winamp and do some rare gaming..but the front conections are very useful for lanparties and when I am talking in skype..

I'm still not sure what you mean by this... If you're hoping to use both the Alt. Out. and the front 5.1 output, you can't use them at the same time. Or are you just referring to the fact that you can plug in headphones?
