As always at such an early stage it's all a guess. I can choose on not give a hint but then I will get angry smiles in that case too right?
It's not as easy as opening a beer on a friday night. Atleast not on an early friday night

Well, lets say between 2007 and 2010 then.

So many new developments in the IEM world! Peter, when you say the s-JAYS will be "between the d-JAYS and j-JAYS" is that in terms of both cost and sound quality? Without breaching any nondisclosure agreements, can you comment at all on the type of sound signature you hope to produce with it? For example, will it be more d-JAYS-like, more j-JAYS-like, or different from both?

You know I'm just kidding.....

That sounds very nice. I'll keep some money to buy a pair as soon as they come out. To sum up, we'll soon see the birth of earbuds with a micro-armature driver, right ?

epithetless:Well, the bass is more j-JAYS but the mids and highs are better and therefore more like the d-JAYS. But we will tweak the sound until the final version. Kramer5150 and The_Duke_Of_Eli here on head-fi will help us tune these buddies with their ears and opinons.

Claus-DK:I now you are Cheers!

Aidanael:That is correct Sir

I think the treble peak is around ~10k, and rolls off gently above there. You all should note that the music I listen too doesn't really have much fundamental tones above 10k. So its really hard for me to say if the q-jays are rolling off naturally or the source material is doing it. I think its probably a combination of both.

D-Jays versus Q-jays... they are very different sounding IEMs. the d-jays are more forward and aggressive, they really jump out and grab your attention. I add a little bass boost on my D335 and the d-jays SHINE. The q-JAYS are more relaxed and distant sounding. So for Enya, Keiko Matsui... ambient kinds of music sound far better on the q-jays. The q-jays deep-bass performance is better too, by a noticeable amount.
If I had to put some numbers to it, I would way the q-jays treble is about a 1.5-~2db boost around 9-10khz. Its got some nice bass boost too to help balance it out. I wouldn't call them overly-sibilant. I have heard other phones that had more of a treble boost than the q-jays.

Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to direct compare them with the ER4. If memory serves me right, they are more on the etymotic-side of the spectrum than the shure end.

Overall they are a very airy presentation that is enjoyable.

Funkmonkey... I didn't answer your question. Bottom Line: My preference is the q-jays. The added bass impact/extension, sense of air and resolution is much more enjoyable. The q-jays scale up better with amp/source upgrades than the d-jays. The d-jays I think will pretty much always have their characteristic sound that they impose on the amp/source. The q-jays however, being more accurate and detail revealing will scale up to the moon and back if you hand pick an amp/source for synnergy.

I'm on the hunt for a RSA tomahawk... I was floored how this tandem sounds with my D335.

I also am enjoying my little sweetpig amp with the q-jays. I think any open, spatious, detailed amp circuit will shine with the q-jays. Avoid forward sounding amps that close-in the soundstage. Avoid high gain amps... gain higher than 4-5 is just not needed unless your source has unusually low output.

The q-JAYS sound tempting to wait for, but simply from a pricepoint, I think i will run with the d-JAYS for now...then, when I finish studying and start working etc, I can go straight to something like SE530. I have no doubts about the durability or comfort of the d-JAYS, but about their sound:

Some people are saying that they lack bass - I'm not really a basshead or anything, but upgrading from iBuds I can at least expect better basss than those right? (I'm using the HD555 at home, so thats the level of bass I'm used to).

Second thing is sensitivity, hiss and amplification. I would use these staright from the headphone out of my iPod nano 1st gen (no amp). Would there be any hiss with the d-JAYS? Would the d-JAYS still sound good without an amp?

Thirdly, I've read in some places that it is not recommended to use IEM's for exercising. I'm not too concerned about microphonics (they're not too bad on the d-JAYS right?) but some say that sweat can get in the drivers and screw them up. Is this true? Would the d-JAYS be alright to use while exercising? I don't really sweat bucketloads (or at least i don't think so...)

I will definately not be using an amp (for now...). I will be using them at work, straight out of my iPod's headphone jack. Also with hearing protection over my ears (ear muffs/headphone style). I am a carpenter, so I am moving around all the time and microphonics are an issue.

I am amazed at how much better my old Sony MDR-ED226's sound when isolated by the earmuffs. For a while I thought the V-moda Vibes might be good for me, but I am concerned about their durability... Still searching

I heard a few good things about the Denon buds, but only one or two people here have anything to say about them... I think they are simmilar to the Sen CX-300 and the j-Jay's

Now I get teased with the s-JAY's !!!
They actually sound perfect (Deep bass, detailed highs, not too much $$$)
Who am I kidding, I can't wait that long.

Big burger:
It is always a matter of taste, but to my ears d-JAYS are not bass-shy, much better bass than ibuds..

With my ipod (5,5) there is a little hiss but I can only hear it when there is no music, the hiss is less than E500....

They sound good without an amp, but better with an amp not much but better..

I do not exercisie, but I use them at work everyday (I do not sit down at work, but am almost walking around all day), I have made a small mod to mine so there is no microphonics when walking..

Hope this will help you..
