Depends on the mp3 player I guess, my Zen Micro Photo is not so fortunate at dirving 50 ohms, but I don't use it for that anyways xD

Well you guys have me considering the alternatives now

The BD DT-770-80 Pro and the AT A900 to be exact. I like the idea of the A900 running with a 40 ohm impedance. If I went this direction, an amp wouldn't be a necessity right out of the gate like it would be for the others.

I suppose a follow up question would then be, how much would the A900 really benefit from an amp? It seems to be the most source friendly for this reason, but how much of a difference will I notice with it's low impedance?

You guys have been priceless with the help, I appreciate it.

(priceless means he is considering spending more money now)

hd595 should have no unamped issues (the 50 ohm one) and WILL scale with amps.

a900 is quite interesting...

yeah 120ohms is a lot of an ipod

I hooked my HD580 up to my brother zen vision M to give it a test go I needed almost top volume to get a decent volume but those are 300ohms.

you really should of got the new 50ohms ones are you sure your getting 120ohms? almost all ones you buy online should be newer unless your buying them used.

I'll be using a gigabeat s60, or possibly a ZVM. I'm getting a used pair so I know its a 120 ohm one. True about the other sources at home but most of my music collection is kept on my dap's themselves.

HD595 is a great headphone, has lots of detail, sounds very balanced and "neutral" to me (I know, don't flame me for that - I am not saying it IS neutral, I am comparing to those headphones I had before). The clarity is really impressive, I am hearing things I didn't know where there, even in songs I listened hundreds of times before. It is a joy. If you are using a portable source, I recommend an amp - it will indeed benefit from a good amp, not dramatically. You won't regret buying it. I can't tell you about the HD580, but I would not buy the HD555.

I just have on simple question. I've read almost all the posts regarding the simillarities and differences between HD595 and HD600/650 but i just cant make up my mind if i should buy HD595 or if it's worth the difference ~200 euros to go straight to the HD650. Im pairing them up with E-MU 0404 USB. So what's your advice on that? I'm listening mainly classical music. Are those two in different leagues or is it just a matter of sonic signature?

The sound signature is definitely different. I actually preferred my old HD595s to my new HD650s - I just find the 650s to be less comfortable and bordering on dull (it does have nice deep bass though).

Then again, my favorite cans are SA5000s currently, which are quite unlike the 650s sonically so maybe I just like bright headphones...

You more likely will find the HD650 worth the extra money if a) you prefer a darker and more laid back sound, b) you prefer listening to classical, c) you have adequate amplifcation/DAC like the E-MU 0404 USB, and d) the expenditure of the extra money won't cause a hardship.

That said, there's no guarantee you would prefer the HD650 over the HD595 with your set-up and music preference. Comparing them is the best way to see which you like best.

I generally don't consider the HD595 one of the better cans for classical, but then mine was the 120 Ohm version and wasn't amped very well. If it were me, I'd go with the HD650.

as for what you said I'd go with the HD555/HD595 as you can run those out of your soundcard pretty well but the HD580 you wouldn't and there not as good in gaming. I do use my HD580 in gaming and it doesn't seem to be a problem so it's worth a try.

edit: I had the HD555 before too

I thought HD 600 and 650 is designed to replace the HD580 as flagship model of the sennheiser, HD595 is just a new product.

If you want to get a good set up buy in this order...

HD580

A set up like that will get you a good gaming/computer set up. Im not sure about the HD580s with movies, but my HD650s do movies quite nicely.

If you get the 580, and after you get the amp, if you've got an extra $40 do the "580 mods" (do a search of this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=132335). This can improve the performance of the 580 to near or above the HD600 SQ levels (until just recently a $300 HP).

The HD600 was introduced as an aniversary special edition of the HD580 (the 580 Jubilee) and then stayed in the line. The HD650 is a premium version with closely matched drivers. All three are the same design.

The HD595 was introduced to replace the HD580's pricepoint.
