ok, gotcha...how you explained is weird though, you should change it to say that the Netgear and the 3comm are BOTH Modem/routers. The way it sounds is that you have 2 wireless routers and then of course a modem to connect. Its just worded kinda weird i guess.
Now, the reason is that the NAT on the 3comm is less to run then the Netgear....are they both running WEP? If the 3comm is older, which im guessing it is..it could be running a NAT thats less to run then what the Netgear runs. Like if you use WEP and WPA, one is a high level, so it does slow down the router quite a bit. This in general slows everything else down.
Then how do you explain the intermittent disconnection ? Downloads gets cut off frequently, webpages stops loading........but MSN keeps working.
A new NAP can't cut things off, and even if it slows it down, it won't make it feel like the computer is sluggish.

|I have 2 wireless routers, an old 3com one and a Netgear DG834G v3 router.
I don't see how one can think one is a modem, the other is a wap, when the following sentence says i got the netgear for the Wii and DS because the 3com isn't compatible (compatible as in it has the capability but not the compatibility).
Sorry if it wasn't clear before.
