Any Koss Pro 4 AAT impressions.. - Page 2

I've ordered a set of Pro4AATs after listening to my friends Pro4AA.
Thanks TempestX for your review, helped in my consideration of the AAT

My friends studio has some very high-end audio playback equipment so it was nice to be able to compare the tone of the headphone with his rig. The Pro4 AA was very dynamic - and although it lacked 'soundstage', the tone was not sacrificed or artificial - just detailed. The Koss Pro4 has tightly controlled bass that makes my HD280 seemed really coloured and flabby. The bass is so good on the Pro4AA that I know I would be missing out listening to my 280s.

I have not heard a headphone that had better bass. Is the DT770 as accurate?

It certainly isn't for everyone... the new AAT looks a bit more comfy.. and I think prolonged use would by a bit harsh.

One of the few headphones that is truly professional.

Will give a detailed review later on. I'm thinking the 280s will still have some merit...just not in the bass dept.

Older ones are heavier, and do not have Titanium coated drivers. But they'd stop a bullet, and will still be around after a nuclear blast, they're that sturdy.

Sound pretty good considering the age of the design too. (the old ones that is, havent heard the new ones)

Well I just bought a pair for $10 SCORE at a flea market. A few rash marks but after a little cleaning they are nearly as good as new. Yes the 250ohm impeadance means that you would be cranking your ipod to max to get adequate sound. I find the bass is a little muddy but the highs and mids are nice a bright. I have not used it with an amp yet so will give that a try. They are spected to go down to 10Hz. I would prefer to see a freq plot and examine the dB variance for myself.. Overall they sound pretty good. No not audiophile quality but then again most that claim to be audiophile phones fall short anyway since it is so subjective. I think most will be happy with them.

On thing that does bother me about these headphones is the canned sound you get from them. Like taking a sea shell and putting it next to your ear. Not as dramatic but does sound a bit canned.

strap a brick to your head, give it drivers and then an unmanageable cable... that is a koss pro 4aat

I have the Pro4AATs.

I think they are excellent. Of course, since they are my first high-end headphones, I don't have anything to compare them to, but I disagree with a lot of the comments about them. They do have soundstage and imaging: if you close your eyes you can picture a concert in front of you and place the instruments and vocalists.

Right now, I use them with an unamped Ipod, and I have to turn the volume up to max to make it loud enough. I have an amp on the way to fix that. Unamped, the headphones can vary in their bass response. When my Ipod battery is completely full (all green), the bass is very loose and doesn't sound good. When the battery starts to wear out a little, the bass becomes very tight and sounds great until the battery completely dies. I'm hoping the amp will fix this.

Yes, they can be somewhat uncomfortable. I got used to it quickly, but some people experience headaches and the like when wearing these headphones; if you are one of the people, you will probably end up returning the headphones. I, however, find them comfortable enough, and they do not give me headaches or make my ears sweat. The compression on your head can be a bit annoying, but now that the headband has loosened up a bit the compression is much better.

A word of caution with these headphones: Give them plenty of burn-in!!! I cannot stress this statement enough. Out of the box, these headphones sound absolutely horrible. The bass sounds fine, but that is about the only thing you hear. The mids and highs are completely washed out. I was very disappointed when I heard these headphones out of the box. Fortunately, with 24/7 burn-in, the sound began to improve very slowly. Somewhere between 100 and 150 hours, the mids and highs seemed to suddenly break free and they became very detailed, transparent, and neutral. The headphones have sounded excellent ever since them. I think the reason why many people hate these headphones is that they do not allow enough burn-in time (after all, 150 hours is higher than most headphones). Do 24/7 burn-in for ten days and you will be fine. For even better results, finish it off with a few days of pink noise - when I used this noise, the sound improved even more. If you judge the headphones before adequate burn-in, you will end up returning them.

I am not sure if having an amp to start with will reduce the required amount of burn-in. In any case, I would still do 200 hours of burn-in just to be sure.

YW! It is all about the sound you like, not what others quote and others ears. Happy listening!

Well, just based on the numerous reviews I've read about them on B&H, Amazon, Newegg, etc., and their impedance of 300 ohms, and because they're kinda heavy, I'd say that they're great for use strictly at home with your stereo or computer, but crap when used with an iPod or other portable music device.

Just picked up the Koss Pro 4 AAT two days ago at Best Buy and right out of the box they sound spectacular running from my Onkyo TX-8555 stereo reciever. I may have finally found my all time favorite headphone. They are much more comfortable then my Koss Pro 4AA (which i also love) due to the much more pliable pleather ear padding which seems to mold itself around my ears creating a excellent seal isolating outside noise better then any other headphone i have used yet. Build construction is strong and sturdy but not as heavy as the tanklike Koss Pro 4AA. I can wear these for hours without worrying about any discomfort.

The sound is warmer then the Koss Pro 4AA with more bass thanks to the excellent isolation of the padding. When moving my head to look in back of me which makes the seal open slightly i definitely notice how weaker the bass is compared to when my head is in a normal position. Theres plenty of nice mid-range and the treble while not as crystal glass clear as the Koss Pro 4AA is still highly defined with immense detail making cymbals really shine in music and games.

I thought the KRK KNS-8400 were fantastic for detailed realism but for me i was totally blown away by the level of realism of the Koss Pro 4AAT when playing SKYRIM. It was like listening to the ultimate soundscape with so many sound effects playing all at once as if someone had given me a new pair of virgin ears. Hearing birds chirping, the wind blowing and the nearby river running all at the same time was like waking up to morning sunshine. Since getting these i have yet to turn on my speakers for a bit of variety because the Koss Pro 4AAT are so completely satisfying.

When listening to some ambient albums by Cluster i was amazed at the fuller expansive sound as if before with other headphones and speakers i was not getting the complete sound. I love the fact that they have their own character and are not just clones of the fantastic sounding highly detailed treble focused Koss Pro 4AA.

I was real fortunate to pick these up by chance at Best Buy when not finding the headphones i was looking for. They were just sitting there by their lonesome without even a price tab for them on any of the metal hangers as if they were just placed there due to being returned by a customer which might explain the amazing out of the box sound already on them.

The other great thing about the Koss Pro 4 AAT is i dont have to use an extension cord like i do with the Koss Pro 4AA.

So this may very well be the end of my headphone journey. Then again i've heard good things about a few other Koss headphones....

Wowzers..these are truly incredible headphones. The amount of audio detail they pick up is probably ninety nine percent of what is possible from the original source file. Today i was playing Skyrim and i couldnt believe i was actually hearing the soft pitter patter of the ratlike skeever creatures feet rushing up some stairs. This was no soundstage effect either they actually sounded authentic like what i would hear in real life with the pitter patter of the soft ratlike skeever feet getting louder as they drew nearer. Amazing.
