Earphones That Offer Accurate Detailed Sound!

Hi...I am looking for good earphones.

What I am looking for is accurate detailed sound without any enhancements of any sort. I want to hear exactly what's on my Cd or Mp3 player (my music encoded in FLAC) as it is. NOTHING ELSE!!!

Also where can I purchase these at the best possible price online?

Also I am currently using a Sennheiser PX100 with my Cowon IAudio U3 player. The sound is very good but how does a top quality earphone compare to sound of the PX100?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank You So Much,
Navindra

Okay after reading the reviews & suggestions I am leaning either to the Etymotic Research ER-4P Earphones or the Westone UM2.

The reason I am looking at the UM2 is because I called EarphoneSolutions.Com the other day and they said this is my best bet...the Westone UM2 & the following review by LordPercy seems to confirm what the lady over at earphonesolutions said. The link to LordPercy's review is below:

Any comments or suggestions would be welcomed.

I find the ER's uncomfortable, if that'll offer any insight.

I am willing to spend up to $400 bucks for an earphone.

I am beginning audiophile but I am really serious about my music.

go for the ER4P; the UM2 is great, but it's more musical than accurate.

i'd wait for the Westone 3 instead of the UM2 , from what i understand they have a strong bass represantion while the 3 is going to be more neutral and balanced across the range (i think ^^)

When considering what you are after, one of the last suggestions on my list would be a pair of UM2s.

Get the ER-4P with the P->S converter cable. The ER-4P is on Amazon for $165, and I've heard that the cable can be had for $45 (but I don't know where). You'll still have a little under $200 to get a decent amp and maybe a DAC, if you want to go digital.

I'm going to have to agree with the ER's. Although they don't offer any... "enhancements" almost all earphones in that range has extended bass, as well as any decent headphones in the range. After you step up from IEM's and experience headphones, you might feel that the ER4S's are lacking bass.

ER4P's. If comfort IS an issue, choice of tri-flanges (uncomfortable to some) or comply's (most folks love 'em but there's a bit less bass & isolation but not enough to cancel out the "WOW! factor" of the 'phones) is available right from the box. I tried them with the P->S adaptor and didn't like the sound, so mine are stock & I saved between $50 - $75.

With the savings from your $400 budget (ER4P's can be had for $169), you could buy a heckuva nice amp & appropriate DIY cable for your Cowon and/or CDP. Check out Head-Fier Skylab's invaluable portable amp shootout to help you make the right choice in amp (you're looking for a 9V amp with a low or adjustable gain for those Ety's ) and DIYers such as "highflying" , "cantsleep", and "TURBO" make great cables for less than some of the bigger names & companies (but of equal value).

Have fun. Sometimes I like putting together a rig better than listening to it ! zD
