When does length have a negative affect in sound quality?

I am planning on making special interconnects (I don't know what materials to use yet but most likely Neutrik connectors and Canare starquad cables) for Emu-1212m. I am planning on using the interconnect to connect my Emu-1212m on my computer to my receiver which is a good 6 feet from my computer. Will a 6ft cable perform worst than maybe a 3 ft cable when it comes to interconnects?

Or maybe i can use the optical output?? I would prefer using the analog line out from the emu1212 though. So this is another good question. Does length (3-4ft difference) play a bigger role in sound quality when it comes to interconnects or optical?

If your cable is thick enough not to raise resistance, I doubt you'll have a problem.

It does not matter under 50 feet.

Never.

Ok, so that was the practical answer. I'm sure someone else can give you a theoretical answer that will refute this claim, like if you use 1,000 feet of interconects and have exceptional hearing.

Ok, so again, I'm just making up the 1,000 feet part, but what I'm really saying is that it makes zero difference to human ears when comparing the lengths of various interconnects that you would actually use (i.e., anywhere from 0.5 meters to 10.0 meters, let's say). You won't hear any differences (assuming it's the same materials used in the cables and they are constructed with equal quality, same connectors, etc).

mihm5's post is perfect!
