speakers.. for university accomodation.. help!

hello, at the moment in my house i have some creative 5.1 speakers.. about 5w or 6w per sattelite, and 25w subwoofer

but i have found myself maxing out the volume sometimes, and occasionally music and bass getting distorted

im moving out to university accomodation soon, and so i would like some good quality, clear, loud speakers (well loud enough for my room - i don't need anything that will make me deaf!)

my friend showed me these on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=230089841419

these look really good, but i dont know much about speakers. I want to be able to hook up my mp3 player to is, as well as my TV (and cd player etc as needed)
also preferably with an equaliser on them..

any recommendation? based on my situation what do you think i should be looking for? thanks =)

If you need to hook everything up to speakers like that, your gonna need a receiver. Here is a pretty good one:

Then you will need speakers, your best bet are these:

hmmm well i was thinking of getting one of those cables that connects to the headphone socket of my TV/mp3 player (forgot the name of it)
will i still need a reciever?

and for speakers they seem a bit outta my price range.. anything for below $100 maybe?

Yes, you will need a receiver to hook up to speakers. Especially if you want to hook up to TV, MP3, whatever.

Look at the Insignia speakers from Best Buy. 60 bucks or so and supposedly sound pretty good. And PLENTY loud for a freakin' dorm room.

P.S. You'd look like a total d-bag with karaoke speakers in your room. Get something subtle.

Look out, people, you guys could have made him create a fire hazard. Those were powered speakers. He doesn't need an amplifier, just preamp/mixer controls.

Perhaps that's why I told him to get Insignias
