Eltax Monitor III Rattles.

Hello all, i'm new to these forums so forgive me if this problem has been mentioned elsewhere.

I have a Technics system (CA10):

Amp (Says: AC~ 230W - 240W, 235W, 50Hz) - SE-CA10
Stereo Tuner - ST-CA10
COMPACT DISC Changer - SL-CA10

My speakers are Eltax Monitor III's. Back label says:

Item No: 1840
Music Power: 150 Watt
Nominel Power: 90 Watt
Freq. Response: 50-20.000Hz
Impedance: 4-8 Ohm

Now, down to the problem - Lately my left speaker has been producing a sort of rattling sound, only on strong bass songs, and at high volumes .

Originally I put this down to me turning my system up too loud, but i'd have expected that to affect both speakers..

I've tried tightening all bolts and screws, and checking it wasn't anything it was next to that was causing it to rattle. By the way, I am very much a basshead lol.

Is it fixable, and if so is it worth taking it to a shop, or could I fix it myself..

Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Any help will be much appreciated,

Thanks, Amar

Though I am not familiar with your particular speaker, it is quite reasonable that one of a pair is damaged while playing music "at the same volume." Many music tracks are not equally balanced between two channels and not all speaker drivers are made to the same tolerances, so you could have reached the threshold of the one that is causing grief.

Assuming that the rattling occurs in the low frequency driver when playing music, it is highly likely that you may have damaged the voicecoil, or something on one of the drivers has come loose. If you gently (do this at your own risk, I'm no expert) press the cone of the woofer to cause it to move in and out, you may feel some roughness in the movement that is not present in the corresponding driver of the other speaker. If so, it is probably the voicecoil that is damaged.

If the drivers are readily available for your speaker, then it's just a matter of swapping out the driver. Hope this helps.

If it is a bass reflex speaker design, then perhaps the port is badly designed and vibrates. This happens on the cheap subwoofer that I have, and it's certainly annoying as heck.
