HiFi system and external EQ

Hello, I have fully loaded hifi system with CD, twin cassette deck, tuner, amplifier.
I’d like to try to improve the quality of sound of some of my CDs and I’ve just bought an external EQ.
I do not know much about equipment so I am not quite sure if I can connect HiFi system (out) to EQ (in) and again connect EQ (out) back to HiFi system…Will this work?
If I do this connection will I be able by means of external EQ to influence the sound on my HiFi system?
I’m asking because I’m afraid to break something by doing some stupid connection…
Any help is very much appreciated,
Thanks in advance, leener

Do you have an integrated amp (pre/main amp) or receiver? --got any pics of the back?

Either way you could use the pre-outs/ins or a tape loop for the processor.

Some integrated amps and receivers have a set of U shaped jumper pins connecting the preamp to the amp. If you pull those jumpers, you can patch your equalizer right between and have it in line for all of your components automatically.

See ya

Hi GDane, it is about my soon arriving 204...
One of my two sources is the hifi system (I use it quite often as it has 5,1 surround and for example Allan Holdsworth is much better on surround sound, so I thought it would be nice to give it a little more life with 204) and it has an integrated amp, I think... - is it the amp in hifi system which makes CD, tape, radio play?
In the hifi amp there is "RCA in" - I use it for DVDAudio/Video Player - and "RCA out" - I do not have anything to use it with...
I thought if I use these in&out to connect 204?...
What is tape loop? I'm sorry I know I'm damn stupid but...
BigShot mentions U shaped jumper pins - I think I don't know what it is. There are couple of flat cables connecting different blocks of HiFi, I think, amp and CDP, radio and taperecorder...
I really hope that I will solve this with your help,
thnx, leener

I've checked up in manual, is VCR (EXIT) a tape loop?

I'm not really sure if that'd work. The jumper pin option is best as bigshot mentions. You could use the VCR input & output and see,it's just that I've never used that method with my receiver so I can't say for sure. I've actually never used my 204 with my speaker system, I bought it just for my headphone rig.

Thnx, I'll try it when 204 arrives.
BTW how do you connect source to 204 and 204 to amp?
204 has 1/4"TRS phone type plug for each channel (left and right, so it looks like it is MONO 6,5mm Plug?)) and amp usually has RCA female...(?)
Thnx for help, leener

You need four separate cables with 1/4" on one end and RCA on the other.

These can be TRS or TS. The 204 can use balanced inputs/outputs and will automatically adjust to unbalanced connections which is what you have.

TS > RCA would be best...something like this

Yes, that's what I thought...
Thank you, leener
