Most underrated headphone brand.

The purpose of this thread is to counter Matthew-Spaltro's thread of the most overrated brand of headphones. My question is:

Which brand of headphones deserve better than the reputation that it has gotten?

i don't have enough experience to answer this one cause i haven't tried enough headphones to derive a qualified decision.

look forward to the answers though.

edit: a little clarification added

you think the cans are too large?

they seem just a tad too big to me. i'll work on it.

edit: fixed. cans are as clear as before but they are ok. you can still tell they are 580's.

sorry for all the OT.

anyone got input on the original intention of the thread?

i don't think anyone i know (except me) here in KC has heard of Grado, BeyerDynamics, Audio-Technica, or AKG. I don't have anyone local to share this hobby with so my opinions are based on experience with my own limited collection, and from how I interpret the reviews/comments I find here. I don't know if my gear is really good or not because I dont have anything except my stuff with which to compare my stuff ....It seems you would need to have heard a pretty wide selection of brands and models to make fair statements about who is over and under-rated

edit : trying to make sense. it's late

well, if you take both numbers from both polls, and add/subtract them, you should have a winner in each.

I'm voting for Stax. It's remarkable that one of the world's best manufacturers and the presumedly best headphone principle is that underrepresented in Head-Fi.

I voted for BeyerDynamic...

Whilst having the Senn HD600, 580, 565, PX200, MX500, MX400 & MX5... I have only one Beyerdynamic... yet I like the sound of them... Beyer seems a very elusive company to get products from, unlike Sennheiser which seems almost 'mass produced'

As for my opinion of the most underrated headphone brand, it's a toss-up between AKG and Beyerdynamic. But I'm not voting just yet, since it's extremely difficult picking between the two (based on the 'good' headphones from both brands that I've heard).

I think Sony should finish first in both categories. They make some crappy low-end stuff which causes their high-end to be underrated. They make great high-end stuff which often causes their low-end to be overrated.

I think Etys should be added to the mix.

Man, difficult decision. Which brand of cans is underrated?? Or, in other words, which brand receives less press and positive posts about them?? Out of all the brands I have heard many good things consistently said about them, but very few bad things said as consistently. I voted for Sony myself, but could have just as easily gone the the Beyer line. The Beyers seem to be very good cans indeed, and yet they just aren't as popular as most of the rest represented here. Puzzling???

Does anyone think that the Beyer dt990s get a bad rap in The Headroom's review? Hmpf!

I go outside with my px200s, or er6s, escape my husband's gaming with my er6s, do the dishes with my Grados...

And yet...and yet... the 990s show me the love..

These and the 4p/s...I'll be in audio heaven!
