amp synergy is rite...
but low impedance headphones will always favor solid sate amps (easy for solid state to drive them)
and high impedance headphones always will favor tube amps (easy for tubes to drive them)
grados always will work and sound more natural with a solid state then a tube amp, the opposite goes for cans like senn 600/650..they love the tube amps like a natural more organic sound.
of course that's not saying grados cant sound good with tubes or senn's cant sound good with solid state...that's more where a good synergy will come into play. but the two types of headphones will always sound more organic with their respected counter part amps in line.
iem's (esp the two/three driver kind) love solid state so much so that the two/three driver can not be properly driven with a tube amp..reasons for this is because the over all impedance of the can may be say 32ohms but the separate small drives inside are different ohms also..my sensa's have 4ohm drivers for the highs, so for a tube headphone amp its impossible to do the highs right..some tube amps will do a better job but its never truly right like a solid state amp will do.
