Question about audio-technica sj5 s

Im thinking about buying these headphones, but i want to know if it isolates at all? and if so, how its sound-isolating compares to that of the AKG k-81s.

Not too many people have these yet, and I don't either so I can't comment on the isolation.

Youv'e probably read this, but incase you haven't then you should. Sorry I don't have an answer to the isolation part.

It should isolate on some level, as it is advertised as a closed headphone. If I had to guess, I'd say it isolates enough to block ambient office/outdoor noise, but not enough for commuting on public transit or on a plane.

The K81DJ isolates pretty good, primarily because it exerts a lot of pressure on the ears. AT headphones tend to not exert very much pressure and are more about the comfort, but isolation should be decent, most likely not as good as the K81DJ.

If I were to guess, I would say the k81's isolate more as well. Since you have tried the akg's, you know how they feel. They create a pretty good seal on your ear with all that pressure...

I have them and find that they isolate better than my K26P because they completely cover my ears.

The pressure is less, but the trade-off in comfort is worth it.

I got them instead of K81DJ, so I can't compare with those.

I have a pair of the K81DJ's and they don't feel too bad on my head... mind you, I don't leave them on for extended periods at a time (I don't think you should for any pair of headphones). I haven't heard the SJ5's, but the reviews seem to be pretty positive... however, there's a lot more known about the K81's and the reviews are also pretty positive.

Ultimately, both are likely good choices. Go with your gut!

The K81s are very uncomfortable on the head. They pinch! While SJ5s are much more comfortable, and they do provide some isolation, though not much. Sound-wise SJ5's are an average performer at this price point, and I think K81s do better in sound quality.

I have tried both SJ3 and SJ5. The design and workmanship are very nice, though.

I'm rather surprised to read this. Hasn't everyone with the SJ5s been saying they provide better sound quality than the K81DJs?

Everyone hears differently, and therefore will perceive sound differently.

If by everyone you mean the 1 or 2 people who happen to have listened to both, and happen to prefer the ATH-SJ5, then yes.

I think people get the overall sense that the ATH-SJ5 sounds better because people continue to spread the opinion of one or two users. But it, like jbloudg20 states, will depend on the person's own opinion.

And in my opinion (I was the first on here to have both of them), the SJ5 was a far better headphone.
