You know... That song has been covered about 4 billion times. What's even funnier is that it was the first song I could play rythym and sing along to all the way through on the guitar. You guitar players should try it sometimes. It takes about 5 minutes to learn even for a novice guitar player. Am E C F G over an over.

"You thinkin' lifes a joke, I'll slice your throat
Oh you a thug, you about to get yo' rights revoked
I'm from the Dirty, we don't even know the price of soap
I'm a star, look in the sky, you need a microscope" - Fredrick

Tori amos takes this one with her song Blood roses

Quote:

When chickens get a taste of your meat girl
Chickens get a taste of your meat yes

Quote:

You think I'm a queer
I think you're a queer
Said I think you're a queer
I think you're a queer

The way she sings it makes it priceless

And because of those lyrics this is one of my favorite songs on the Boys for Pele album

Sorry folks, Ive got the hands down winner here, courtesy of Jeff West, from the Prince's Charm album:
"You're on welfare and you're also on Telus/ We know that you're jealous/Jealous of my status/ Cuz compared to you, I've got higher aparatus" HIGHER APARATUS?! Something tells me ol' Jeff didn't bother dusting off his copy of Webster's to come up with that sweet rhyme.

I understand "pop" punk isn't made for older/wiser thinking minds, but Blink 182's "First Date" hit new low with me
"In the car, I just can't wait...
To pick you up on our very first date
Is it cool if I hold your hand?
Is it wrong if I think it's lame to dance?
Do you like my stupid hair?
Would you guess that I didn't know what to wear?
I'm just scared of what you think.
You make me nervous so I really can't eat"

Tori has several very bad moments I can think of. But one of her classic lyrical missteps goes back to her early days as Y Kant Tori Read:

"The Big Picture"

someone smashed my window
broke into my brand new car
last night
caught my boyfriend lookin'
at another slender
pair of thighs
gotta make more money
gotta get gotta get there faster than
the rest
knock 'em off the ladder
if they even seem to
stand a chance

CHORUS
the big picture
gotta big white cloud
the big picture
is starin' at me
starin' at me

why do i feel so threatened
that somebody else will
take what's mine
babe it's only rented
no one really owns the
merchandise
what about what i want
somehow it got lost somewhere
inside
my mother's on my case
i told her it's my life
well, she just died

How 'bout Alanis Morrisette's ironic list of things that aren't ironic? I would have thought somewhere along the path someone would have pointed that out to the poor girl...

No. Technique just likes to say things in an offensive way to make it more impactful. Most of his points are good if you can just take them for the meaning he's trying to get across.

It wasn't the "offensiveness" of the lyrics that made them so ridiculous. The actual rhymes, the lack of interconnectivity between the verses; that's what made them ridiculous. That one bold line is beyond any level of intelligence. It just wreaks of "I couldn't think of something witty to put here."

And, might I say the most impactive (there's no such word as "impactful") lyrics are those that are powerfully communicated? The best hip-hop artists don't have to result to endless profanity and/or offensiveness to get the point across. Strong language can be used similar to instrumental dynamics: To hit that high point and then decrescendo from there. If it's "******" after "******", then it's no better than a heavy metal band with no dynamics. There's a good reason why The Roots, Saul Williams, and Blackalicious are often cited as being some of the best hip-hop artists on the planet.
